Supervisor - Chief Feed Mill, Rose Hill, NC (night shift)

Smithfield Foods . This position supervises the mixing, milling, and employees of the feed mill, ensuring compliance with Feed Quality and Safety programs. The Supervisor directs operations in ingredient receiving, grain drying, feed batching, pelleting, grinding, sample collection and quality testing, and enforces all safety protocols and processes. Core Responsibilities
Complete daily duties in a manner that maintains compliance and seeks opportunities for improvement within the Smithfield ISO22000 Feed Safety and Quality program. Direct operations in ingredient receiving, grain drying, feed batching, feed pelleting, grinding, quality testing, sample gathering, mill sanitation and safety protocol adherence. Communicate with feed mill maintenance and vendors as appropriate. Assist and provide input for capital projects, equipment upgrades or expansion and budget planning. Assist with capital projects; work with maintenance on project planning and future repair needs. Oversee Quality Assurance testing per protocol. Maximize feed production and quality, and feed delivery logistics. Monitor feed and ingredient inventories. Ensure mill sanitation and that sanitation schedules are performed. Supervise mill operators for shift operations. Communicate with dispatch to ensure feed is available for load out and address shortages, outages, delays, or weather issues. Ensure feed formulas or transfers are entered into control system (via computer transfer program). Communicate with customers, dispatch, and office personnel as needed. Complete operational reports as necessary when mill manager is not available. Communicate with procurement department as needed. Promote a safe workplace and conduct safety meetings. Adhere to company safety policies and ensure employees follow safety protocols. Promote environmental stewardship and maintain mill environmental equipment per guidelines/permits. Train/operate forklift and skid loader as necessary. Complete accurate and timely reporting of operations, inventory and sanitation per protocol. Keep management informed of mill operational, maintenance, safety and employee concerns. Recommend process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiencies, quality, and service to the Mill Manager. Help ensure FDA, EPA, Safe Feed Safe Food compliance. Assist with development, implementation and maintenance of future ISO programs/compliance. Communicate mill and transportation issues clearly with other shift leads/employees/departments. Demonstrate punctuality, responsibility, adaptability, and teamwork in daily operations. Comply with Management System requirements including IPS and EMS and Animal Well Being Policies. May follow other job-related instructions and duties as requested, subject to applicable laws. Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Feed Manufacturing, Nutritional Sciences, or related field, and 2+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience acting as a lead by providing training, coaching or mentoring to staff or managing a process or project. Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Ability to calculate figures and percentages and apply basic algebra and geometry. Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret various instructions. Ability to develop working relationships and communicate effectively across departments and with leadership. Experience with order processing systems and proficiency with email and spreadsheets. Experience with MainSaver program helpful; experience with cutting and welding or steam boiler operations helpful. Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be respectful, approachable and team-oriented. Willingness to learn and perform different areas of the feed mill process. Must be able to work weekends and holidays and around a wide range of chemicals and feed ingredients. Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees during the assigned shift in the Feed Mill. Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, directing, appraising, rewarding, and addressing personnel issues. Work Environment
The work environment includes potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Physical requirements may include climbing, walking on concrete, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working around chemicals and feed ingredients. Some overtime and weekend work may be required.
