QA/QC NACE Inspector Ensures welding work is safe and ready to function as part of the structure or device it is a part of. This role is vital in ensuring that safety regulations are followed and that welders and their workplaces are safe. The QA/QC Inspector is expected to be fully conversant with welding processes such as MIG, TIG, arc, laser and butt with metals, including steel and aluminum for use on tubes, non‑tubular bars, plates and tanks. The role also ensures the quality and compliance of piping systems, within the engineering. This is essential for maintaining the integrity of structures, meeting regulatory requirements, and upholding industry best practices. All reinforcing iron and rebar are inspected as part of the duties.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
Daily Construction Surveillance: Perform daily inspections at project sites, focusing on welding, structural, and civil work.
Monitor the progress of construction and ensure all processes are compliant with standards.
Reporting: Draft daily reports based on site observations, highlighting discrepancies or safety issues.
Report non‑compliance or other issues to the QA/QC Manager and Project Manager.
Code Compliance Inspections: Coordinate inspections to ensure that work aligns with client specifications and state laws.
Map out welds to be performed and flag those for Non‑Destructive Examination (NDE) when needed.
NDE Inspections: Perform Non‑Destructive Examinations (NDE) of welds, as necessary.
Fully inspect welds before and after the hydrostatic testing of welded piping or vessels.
Hydrostatic Testing: Witness the hydrostatic testing of welded piping or vessels to ensure integrity and compliance.
Collaborate with Client QA Personnel: Collaborate effectively with client QA teams to address quality concerns and ensure quality assurance standards are met.
Indirect Supervision of Welders: Oversee the work of welders in the Operations Department, ensuring they adhere to Austin Industrial’s policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Supervisory Tasks: Interview, hire, and train employees, as necessary.
Plan, assign, and direct work to ensure successful project completion.
Evaluate employee performance, reward accomplishments, and address issues such as complaints or non‑performance.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required For This Position Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred, and five years related experience as an inspector and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Eight or more years’ experience with ASME B31.36 and ASME Sec VIII and NBIC AWS CWI. ASNT Level II in VT, MT and PT. Minimum of 8 years of Quality Control experience in the industrial industry. Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) ASNT (SNT‑TC‑1A) Level II in one or more methods: PT, UTT (thickness readings), or RTI (film interpretation) preferred or equivalent education. Engineering degrees can substitute for some or all the CWI and ASNT certifications. Civil, structural, mechanical, and minor electrical inspection experience needed. Auditing experience preferred. Read and interpret project drawings and specifications.
Physical Demands The employee must regularly sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is often required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may often lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Education Associate degree preferred.
Certification/License Valid Driver's License, TWIC Card, AWS CWI CERT & NCCER.
Experience 8 years' experience in an Industrial setting preferred.
