Summary Responsible for developing and implementing the maintenance strategy for district vehicles and equipment. Oversee all aspects of the fleet vehicle and equipment maintenance program, including personnel, preventative maintenance, parts, repairs, governmental compliance, replacement program, safety standards, minimizing downtime, and cost efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and oversee the district fleet vehicle and equipment maintenance program, leading a team in daily planning, work inspection, and compliance.
Supervise and evaluate fleet service mechanics, equipment service mechanics, and parts personnel on performance, safety, and attendance. Maintain technician credentials and conduct safety meetings.
Collaborate with the transportation & fleet operations director to develop long‑term plans and stay current on vehicle and equipment technologies.
Analyze preventative maintenance and repair data to minimize failures and protect assets.
Maintain fleet maintenance database, analyze metrics (cost per mile, life‑cycle replacement, tire life), and prepare monthly reports.
Ensure warranty compliance, negotiate vendor contracts, and coordinate procurement of vehicles, equipment, and supplies.
Maintain records per Federal, State, City, County, and District laws, including CDE, DOT, and CDPHE requirements.
Act as Resident Facility Coordinator to coordinate building maintenance and collaborate with the City of Thornton on shared facilities.
Support staff development through training programs, increasing efficiency and technology adoption.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Related Work Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience with vehicle maintenance programs.
Minimum five (5) years experience in vehicle maintenance repairs, including medium/heavy duty diesel engines.
Complete district courses “Progressive Discipline” and “Classified Evaluation System” within one (1) year of entering position.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
Criminal background check.
Commercial driver’s license (CDL) “B” with PS endorsement within (6) months of hire.
CDE Inspector Qualification Certificate endorsement within (6) months of hire.
CDE Third Party Tester Qualification Certificate endorsement within (1) year of hire.
Colorado Diesel Opacity license and diesel compliance coordinator endorsement within (6) months of hire.
CDE Brake Inspector certificate.
ASE School Bus Master Certificate preferred.
Salary Information The salary listed is for full‑time positions (1.0 FTE). It may be adjusted based on FTE. Administrative employees’ salary will be commensurate with education and/or work experience.
