Job Summary
We are searching for an experienced Shipping Clerk at our
Portland, OR
facility. As the Shipping and Receiving Clerk, you will be responsible for the movement of goods in and out of a multi‑shift operation, supporting production flow and material efficiency. (Main hours: Monday‑Friday, 7:00‑3:30 pm)
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate activities of workers verifying and recording incoming and outgoing shipments, and prepare items for shipment.
Study shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices and orders to determine shipping priorities and assignments.
Assist with incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and shipment condition.
Determine space requirements and position of shipments in boxcars and trucks, and lay out positioning.
Inspect loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications and seal loaded boxcars and truck doors.
Inspect material handling equipment for defects and notify maintenance personnel or outside service for repair.
Direct movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
Post weight and shipping charges; prepare bills of lading.
Assist workers in shipping and receiving activities as needed.
Required Experience
Demonstrated experience managing forklift drivers, establishing an excellent safety record, and effectively managing labor costs in the process.
Excellent team‑building skills—engaged, cohesive team handling client goods.
Stickler for details—material‑movement accuracy is critical.
Team player required.
Required Education 1+ years’ experience in warehousing, shipping and receiving, dock operations.
Desired Qualifications
Exceptional detail orientation and problem‑solving skills; persistence and perseverance to find answers.
Strong ability to build both internal and external relationships to ensure optimal customer service.
Experience working with warehousing operations system.
Strong oral and written communication skills; able to assert yourself when needed.
Physical Requirements
Work in a fast‑paced, chaotic, constantly‑changing environment.
Stand, sit, squat, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stretch, walk, reach, twist, bend, grasp, use hands and fingers, handle objects or controls, talk, hear.
Agility to negotiate around moving machinery and people.
Physical capabilities required in given department/assigned areas.
