WSP is initiating a search for a

Geotechnical/Civil Engineer

for our

Lansing, MI

office. This role will involve working with our Earth & Environment Team on projects in the waste industry services area, including solid waste, power, transportation, stormwater, infrastructure and agriculture. Occasional travel may be required. Your Impact

Developing, scoping, and managing small-sized projects. Develop and manage subsurface investigations and laboratory testing programs. Conduct geotechnical engineering analysis including geotechnical investigation programs. Civil layout, grading and/or drainage design. Preparing engineering design reports, drawings, technical specifications, and/or engineer’s estimates. Assist with construction quality assurance projects. Client interaction. Regulatory agency interaction. Training junior staff. Experience with preparing and understanding grading plans and earthworks related construction drawings and construction specifications. Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans. Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents that result in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions. Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide “trusted advisor” service and future ready solutions for clients. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications

Minimum Bachelors of Science degree in Geotechnical, Geological or Civil Engineering. 3-5 years of experience in the practice of geotechnical, geological and/or civil engineering design and/or construction. Registration as Engineer-in-Training or recent Professional Engineer license. Experience in some of the following areas of practice (with a willingness to learn the others): construction quality assurance, solid waste/landfill design and construction, geotechnical engineering evaluations, earthworks construction and/or soils testing, preparing permitting documents, preparing and/or reviewing construction documents such as drawings, technical specifications, engineer’s estimates, and construction quality assurance plans. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software. Experience using geotechnical engineering software such as Rocscience, GeoStudio or Ensoft suites. Ability to work both independently and within groups. Excellent work history with leadership abilities and a positive attitude. Proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations. Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to junior-level team or project members, with strict adherence to quality assurance/quality control. Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and anti-harassment policies. Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
