Position Summary As part of the Commercial Bank, the Director of Underwriting Leasing supports Equipment Finance, collaborates with relationship managers, oversees underwriting of new commercial loans and leases, and manages the ongoing portfolio of existing lending relationships. The position functions as a player/coach, managing the day‑to‑day operations of the centralized underwriting team.

Responsibilities

Lead underwriting due diligence, partner with relationship managers and craft high‑quality credit approval documents.

Interface with clients and stakeholders to facilitate the underwriting process.

Detail debt financings and company financials using Excel and Webster’s credit platform, Sageworks.

Support credit approval discussions.

Review, update, and maintain periodic financial statements and compliance certificates.

Engage with borrowers’ CFOs (or similar) for qualitative performance updates.

Ensure timely renewals, annual reviews, and interim analyses.

Present portfolio review memos to senior credit executives.

Monitor portfolio risk grades and produce quarterly problem asset reports for high‑risk credits.

Maintain ticklers, covenant checks, document library, and other ancillary items in the credit system.

Meet Credit Risk Review, audit, and OCC requirements.

Ensure compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures.

Generate new ideas and recommendations for continuous process improvement.

Participate in special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; courses in accounting and finance preferred.

7‑10 years of professional experience in commercial banking underwriting or portfolio management.

Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite—Excel and PowerPoint.

Strong interpersonal skills to interface with relationship managers, portfolio managers, credit officers, clients, and senior management.

Locations: Connecticut (Stamford), New York (Manhattan, White Plains, Jericho), New Jersey (Paramus); hybrid schedule possible.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000 USD, with additional incentive compensation.
