Remuneration:
Level A: $91,381 – $121,880 + 17% super + leave loading
Level B: $127,947 – $150,830 + 17% super + leave loading
Level C: $155,403 – $178,290 + 17% super + leave loading

Why Your Role Matters UNSW School of Built Environment seeks an Associate Lecturer, Lecturer, or Senior Lecturer in Industrial Design to support the Industrial Design specialisation within the Bachelor of Design degree. The role involves interdisciplinary collaboration, building industry partnerships, and advancing design‑led practices that promote a sustainable and equitable future.
Responsibilities Summary
Level A (Associate Lecturer)
Deliver studio and non‑studio teaching, develop course content, assessment, and constructive feedback.
Contribute to curriculum review and renewal under guidance of senior colleagues.
Support student progression through consultation, supervision, and mentoring.
Supervise Honours students and contribute to HDR supervision.
Build a research profile through projects, co‑authored outputs, or design‑led dissemination.
Engage in professional development, e.g., UNSW Foundations of University Learning and Teaching.
Participate in Communities of Practice and other teaching initiatives.
Level B (Lecturer)
– in addition to the above
Lead innovations in course delivery and curriculum renewal.
Establish an independent research profile with peer‑reviewed outputs.
Pursue external funding opportunities and contribute to research partnerships.
Build active partnerships with industry, professional bodies, and community organisations.
Level C (Senior Lecturer)
– in addition to Levels A and B
Provide academic leadership in curriculum and programme development.
Lead a sustained programme of research with national/international recognition.
Secure external funding and produce high‑impact scholarly outputs.
Lead strategic engagement with industry, government, and community partners.
Skills and Experience Summary
Level A (Associate Lecturer)
Master’s degree in Industrial Design or related discipline; PhD or significant professional experience considered an advantage.
Evidence of effective teaching in tertiary studio and non‑studio contexts.
Emerging research or scholarly activity with early publications or design outputs.
Experience supervising Honours research projects.
Engagement with the Industrial Design profession and industry.
Commitment to ongoing professional development.
High‑level interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Level B (Lecturer)
– in addition to Level A
PhD in Industrial Design or related discipline; exceptional industry recognition may be considered.
Effectiveness in course convening, coordination, and curriculum innovation.
Emerging independent research profile with peer‑reviewed outputs.
Experience building partnerships with industry and professional bodies.
Level C (Senior Lecturer)
– in addition to Levels A and B
Proven track record in curriculum leadership and sustained innovation.
Established research profile with high‑quality outputs and external funding.
Record of successful HDR supervision.
Evidence of sustained industry engagement and national/international recognition.
