About Houston ExxonMobil’s state‑of‑the‑art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low‑Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team

ExxonMobil is seeking experienced Geoscientists with a strong background in in‑situ recovery and heavy oil production and development to join our multidisciplinary team.

The role offers the opportunity to shape long‑term asset value and drive innovation in thermal recovery within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

The role is key to developing and producing heavy oil assets driving the development of future oil sands projects, planning and executing delineation programs, overseeing drilling operations, employing reservoir management strategies, and optimizing production from thermal recovery operations.

The position is located at ExxonMobil campus in Spring, Texas.

What you will do The candidate will apply advanced geoscience techniques to integrate and collaborate across disciplines to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable production from our oil sands portfolio. Key responsibilities include:

Conduct geoscience evaluations to support in‑situ and heavy oil development strategies.

Integrate geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data to characterise reservoirs.

Collaborate with asset and reservoir teams to evaluate reservoir behaviour, identify enhancement opportunities, and refine development strategies.

Contribute to future development projects, including well pad design, facility expansions, and debottlenecking, ensuring alignment with depletion strategy.

Support pilot testing and deployment of emerging technologies (e.g. solvent‑assisted processes, enhanced recovery methods, digital tools).

About you Skills and Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of experience in upstream geoscience, with a focus on in‑situ or heavy oil projects and fluvial‑shallow water stratigraphy.

Strong proficiency in subsurface mapping, well‑log correlation, core description, seismic interpretation, and reservoir characterisation.

Experience with software tools such as Petrel, Kingdom, or similar platforms.

Experience with asset development, depletion planning, reservoir surveillance, and recovery optimisation.

Master’s or PhD degree in Geoscience (Geology, Geophysics, Earth Science); advanced degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

Demonstrated ability to work in cross‑functional teams and communicate technical insights effectively, while managing multiple priorities.

Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

APEGA certification or eligibility for registration is strongly preferred.

Experience working in Canadian oil sands or similar unconventional resource plays.

Familiarity with thermal recovery methods (e.g., SAGD) and associated geoscience workflows.
