Overview The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a 12-month, Tenured/Tenure-Track, open rank faculty position. The College of Dentistry is the largest oral health college in the State of Illinois, provides care for 35,000 patients a year, and has over 500 students in DMD, PhD and Master’s programs.

Responsibilities and Service The faculty member will have clinical, research, teaching and service obligations. Responsibilities include direct and indirect involvement in the post-doctoral and pre-doctoral specialty educational programs for DMD and Advanced Standing students, as well as postgraduate residents. The programmatic duties involve didactic, laboratory, clinical and patient care courses and other assignments for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). The faculty member shall work with the OMFS Department Head and be responsible for development of the program curriculum, staff development, and administrative needs of the pre-doctoral and post-doctoral OMFS clinical and educational programs.

Research and Scholarly Activities Research and scholarly activities are expected, including presentation of abstracts, posters and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications Minimum qualifications include Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS)/Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and an MD degree, fellowship training in head and neck oncology/microvascular reconstruction, completion of an ADA CODA accredited advanced education program in OMFS, dental (and medical, if applicable) licensure in Illinois, and OMFS Board Certification by the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). Preferred qualifications include experience in evidence-based dentistry, curriculum development, practice management, postdoctoral training with an outstanding research and publication record, evidence of successful procurement of internal and external grant funding, ability to attract external funding, commitment to interdisciplinary patient care, and experience in building an equitable and diverse academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications ABOMS Diplomate status highly preferred, or educational qualification for such status. Experience such as leadership in teaching, mentoring, research, or service toward building an equitable and diverse academic and scholarly environment. Previous university-level teaching experience at the pre-doctoral and postgraduate levels. Ability to mentor students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows. Strong record of peer-reviewed publications, research funding, mentoring junior faculty and graduate and/or professional students. Collaborative research experience between a dental school and outside entities (e.g., medical center) is desired.

Salary The budgeted salary range for the position is $250,000 to $350,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
