Brigham and Women’s Hospital . This post‑doctoral research fellowship is offered by the Wertheim Laboratory in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at BWH and Harvard Medical School.

Job Summary We study pulmonary vascular diseases with high unmet clinical need, including pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism. Our focus includes the relationship between endothelial cell dysfunction, vascular inflammation, and extracellular matrix biology in pulmonary arterial hypertension and connective tissue diseases. We employ a systems biology framework, using networks and in silico approaches to generate novel biological predictions, which are then tested using in vitro and in vivo experimental techniques.

Applicants should submit a CV and a 300‑word personal statement highlighting aspects of their biography, career interests, and goals for the fellowship to Brad Wertheim at bwertheim@bwh.harvard.edu. Selected candidates will be invited to submit two letters of recommendation.

Expectations

Design and conduct experiments in collaboration with the PI

Document experimental goals, methods, and results in an electronic laboratory notebook

Independently perform mammalian tissue culture, overexpression/knockdown, histology, protein isolation and characterization experiments on biological samples

Be professional, curious, and open‑minded

Read independently to study relevant biology and methods

Participate in regular laboratory and mentorship meetings

Utilize Prism or programming languages such as R for data analysis and visualization

Advantages of the fellowship include close mentorship by the PI, a diversity of experimental approaches (in vitro, in vivo, in silico), training in systems biology and network medicine, laboratory technician support, experience in pulmonary and cardiovascular pathophysiology, and the rich scientific environment of BWH/HMS. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the thematic areas of interest, protein biochemistry, and/or invasive hemodynamic analysis. Aims for the fellowship include at least one first‑author publication, presentations at national/international conferences, and networking with other figures in the field.
