The Learning Analytics Specialist will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive learning analytics framework for the Uniformed Services University (USU). This role involves designing and executing solutions to capture, normalize, analyze, and present data related to student performance across various academic and clinical learning environments. The specialist will collaborate closely with faculty, researchers, and institutional stakeholders to ensure data‑driven insights support instructional improvement and institutional strategic planning.

What You’ll Do

Design and implement a robust architecture for collecting and analyzing learning analytics data across USU programs.

Integrate data from a variety of sources including: Admissions (e.g., standardized test scores, demographic information, prior service data), Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Sakai), MedHub, Simulation Center systems, Student portfolios, Standardized exam platforms, Course evaluation tools, and other relevant academic systems.

Assess and implement technologies and standards such as xAPI, Caliper, Learning Record Stores (LRS), Google BigQuery, and the Total Learning Architecture (TLA).

Collaborate with faculty and researchers to identify meaningful educational data points and establish best practices for data visualization and interpretation.

Develop visual analytics dashboards and reports that support teaching, learning, and student success.

Assist USU leadership with data‑informed decision‑making to align learning outcomes with the USU Strategic Plan.

Translate raw data into actionable insights to support curriculum enhancement and institutional planning.

What You’ll Bring

Position requires a Public Trust (we can hold up to a secret clearance).

Three to five years of learning analytics experience.

Bachelor’s Degree in Learning Analytics or a related field.

Experience in learning analytics, data science, educational technology, or a related field including proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques.

Familiarity with xAPI, Caliper, LRS, and data warehousing solutions such as Google BigQuery.

Experience with Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Sakai), MedHub, and simulation‑based education platforms.

Strong collaboration and communication skills to work with diverse academic and technical teams; experience working in higher education, particularly with health sciences or medical education, is a plus.

A team player comfortable initiating contact and building professional connections within the USU environment, as the role is siloed (N of 1).

Creative problem solver.

Ability to drive incremental progress even without access to all desired data (data lake non‑existent).

A proactive and curious mindset focused on using data to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

Understanding of educational data mining and common analytics models.

Understanding of curriculum, competency‑based assessment, and accreditation standards.

Ability to translate complex data findings into actionable, non‑technical insights for educators and administrators.

Strong stakeholder management skills (working with faculty, curriculum designers, IT, and executives).

Job Type & Location Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX. This is a fully remote position.

Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.07 – $49.51 per hour.
