Assistant Professor, Earth and Ocean Sciences
Position: 9‑month tenure‑track Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. Location: Main UNCW Campus. 3:2 teaching load of 15 contact hours per academic year.
Brief Summary Of Work:
The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor with expertise in Applied Geodesy, Geophysics, and/or Remote Sensing. The candidate will develop an externally funded research program and successfully advise graduate students, while demonstrating a strong record of effective teaching across introductory, upper‑division, and graduate courses.
Research areas of interest (examples):
Crustal deformation driven by tectonics, magmatism, isostatic adjustment, or dynamic topography
Sea‑level change and coastal and marine landscape evolution
Subsidence, mass wasting, storm‑driven change, and other hazards impacting land areas and ocean margins
Integration of geological, geophysical, geodetic, and/or geodynamic methods using satellite and marine geodesy, remote sensing, altimetry, GPS networks, or numerical modeling is encouraged.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Earth and Ocean Sciences or a closely related discipline is required at the time of appointment. ABD candidates may be considered if the doctoral degree is conferred by August 1, 2026.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong record of research productivity, including external grant support and peer‑reviewed publications.
Demonstrated excellence in multi‑mode instruction at the college level, with experience teaching both large‑enrollment introductory courses and smaller upper‑division/graduate courses.
Interest or success in outreach to increase the visibility, participation, and enrollment of Earth and Ocean Sciences.
