Field System Engineer – SEATAC Metro

Job Summary The Field Systems Engineer (FSE) is responsible for attending to service needs of bioMérieux customers within the assigned geographic territory, as well as nationally, on an as‑needed basis. The role requires a self‑starter who can deliver a best‑in‑class customer experience while working remotely without direct supervision and is able to conduct overnight travel on short notice. Typical weekday travel is defined as daily customer visits requiring no overnight travel, but with daily driving of 50% or more. Weekend and holiday rotational coverage is scheduled with additional driving or flying. Field service operations include approximately 15% on‑call service.
Primary Responsibilities
Territory Management (60%)
Respond promptly to customer needs and perform installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs using electronic and computer skills.
Build trust with customers, promote service agreements, and identify sales opportunities.
Foster teamwork across service and support teams while driving field service revenue through billable offerings.
Travel & On‑Call (10%)
Attend 6–9 weeks of product training at Durham, NC or St. Louis, MO offices within the first year; future trainings as needed.
Travel includes scheduled and unscheduled visits, with increased overnight stays for wide territories and occasional national travel.
Participate in weekend/holiday on‑call rotation (~every 5 weeks), requiring local phone availability and potential national travel.
Administrative Responsibilities (20%)
Complete service work orders, QA checklists, and internal training requirements on time.
Maintain an up‑to‑date calendar of availability and submit travel expense reports regularly.
Follow all company policies related to the use and upkeep of the assigned fleet vehicle.
Other Related Duties (10%)
Manage spare parts inventory and company‑issued equipment.
Continuously improve technical and interpersonal skills; meet annual priorities.
Represent bioMérieux professionally and support trade shows as needed.
Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.
Education & Training
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronic Technology, Computer Science, Biomedical or related discipline.
Valid driver’s license in state of residence.
Four years of related experience, including military experience, may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Experience
At least 2 years of related experience with complex electro‑mechanical, electronic, computer, or electrical systems.
Experience troubleshooting and repairing biomedical, mechanical, electrical, vacuum systems, or similar systems.
Experience operating independently, managing schedules, customer expectations and communications.
Preferred: field service role, host/remote communications, network systems, laboratory operations principles.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Critical thinking, adaptability, time management, communication, problem‑solving and digital literacy.
Technical mastery at the appropriate level for the job, with an aptitude for learning new skills quickly.
Flexibility and resilience in a dynamic work environment.

Domestic travel expectancy: 90 %.
Salary and Benefits Estimated hourly rate: $36.00 – $50.30/hour (Washington). This role is eligible for a variable annual bonus as per bioMérieux’s program.
