Job Overview Akkodis is seeking a Data Engineer I for a contract role with a client in Rochester, NY. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Biomedical Science, Computer Science, or a similar discipline. The position supports the implementation and maintenance of analytical and data‑science‑based software and data pipelines, enabling scientific workflows and enhancing data‑collection frameworks that integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.

Compensation Rate: $30‑$39 per hour (negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors).

Job Responsibilities

Maintain and support the development of infrastructure systems such as data warehouses, data lakes, and data‑access APIs.

Receive guidance from and act in support of a team focused on delivering robust, scalable software solutions to the research enterprise.

Maintain and modify ETL data pipelines and overall data architecture to accommodate growing amounts of data from various large research sources.

Work with team members to translate business and technical requirements into professional software solutions, ensuring timely task completion while managing multiple assignments and timelines.

Support the implementation of custom, research‑project‑specific data workflow solutions for data collection, management, reporting, and analytics, contributing to scientific research.

Adhere to application development life‑cycle practices, including requirements gathering, writing test plans, source‑code management, peer code review, and quality assurance through unit, system, and user acceptance testing.

Participate in the specification, implementation, and execution of testing procedures to ensure the quality of deliverables and the reliability of data workflows.

Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all systems under the engineer’s responsibilities.

Keep abreast of current application developments through continuing education, professional reading, online forums, conferences, workshops, and professional groups.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Biomedical Science, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.

Minimum one year of related experience.

Proficiency in Linux, Python, and Docker containers.

Experience with data analytics and statistical methods.

Expertise in software engineering best practices such as version control and software release management.
