Position Summary Palmetto General Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Plant Operations to join our leadership team. The Director of Plant Operations is responsible for the overall management and direction of the hospital's physical environment, including buildings, systems, equipment, and grounds. This position ensures that the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. The Director provides strategic leadership for facilities maintenance, engineering, environmental safety, and emergency preparedness, supporting the hospital's mission of delivering safe, high‑quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities Facilities & Systems Management
Direct day-to-day operations of plant services including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and structural systems.
Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure reliability and cost‑effectiveness.
Monitor utility usage, energy management, and sustainability initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including AHCA, OSHA, CMS, NFPA, The Joint Commission (TJC), and other authorities.
Maintain documentation, records, and inspection reports required for surveys and audits.
Develop and implement hospital‑wide environmental safety programs.
Leadership & Staff Management
Supervise plant operations staff, maintenance engineers, and environmental support personnel.
Provide coaching, training, and professional development opportunities.
Manage departmental budget, contracts, and vendor relationships.
Emergency Preparedness
Lead the hospital's physical plant emergency planning and response for events such as hurricanes, power outages, fires, or floods.
Ensure emergency generators, alarms, and life‑safety systems are tested and fully operational.
Coordinate with hospital leadership to ensure continuity of patient care during crises.
Strategic Planning & Capital Projects
Develop and oversee long‑term facility improvements plans and capital projects.
Collaborate with hospital leadership on expansion, renovation, or construction projects.
Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet hospital standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related field (Master's preferred).
Minimum 2-5 years of experience in hospital plant operations, facilities, or engineering management.
Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience preferred
Strong knowledge of healthcare facility regulatory requirements
Proven leadership, budgeting, and project management skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with hospital executives, clinical leadership, and regulatory agencies.
Proficiency in Microsoft applications
