Lecturer – ME FY26 Continuous Recruitment About The Job

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota occasionally needs lecturers to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. Appointments may be full‑time or part‑time and may be limited to one semester. This posting is not for a specific vacancy but establishes a pool of applicants for openings during the 2025‑26 academic year. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as‑needed basis throughout the current academic year. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Duties / Responsibilities

Prepare and deliver lectures (20%)

Prepare homework assignments, quizzes and exams (20%)

Hold office hours (15%)

Assess student work (20%)

Supervise teaching assistants (15%)

Manage course administration (10%)

Position is not eligible for H‑1B visa sponsorship.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in mechanical engineering or a related field.

Ability to instruct effectively at both graduate and undergraduate levels to a diverse group of engineering students.

Expertise and documented teaching activities that demonstrate a strong potential to enhance the department’s teaching missions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching engineering curriculum at a higher education institution.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an internationally recognized faculty and is part of the College of Science and Engineering, a highly interdisciplinary college of engineering, physical sciences, and mathematics.

Pay & Benefits

Fixed Pay Rate: $3,100 per course credit, depending on course assignment(s).

Retirement plan options are available for Civil Service, Faculty, Labor‑Represented, Professional & Administrative, and Temp Casual classifications. Learn more about retirement plans.
