Job Summary The Senior Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Engineer works as part of the central OT Cybersecurity group, reporting to the Engineering Group Supervisor (EGS). The role independently develops and delivers engineering products to meet cybersecurity requirements for various NS&E projects, reviews and interprets cybersecurity requirements, and coordinates with multiple disciplines and stakeholders. This is a part‑time telework position based in Reston, VA with occasional business travel.
Major Responsibilities
Execute OT Cyber engineering work on specialized cybersecurity requirements for Federal Systems, nuclear power, and commercial systems, ensuring highly available and secure environments.
Explore subject areas, define scope, and develop novel concepts, approaches, and solutions.
Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines, clients, partners, and suppliers in design and verification of OT cybersecurity requirements.
Develop key design engineering documents such as proposals, conceptual studies, designs, and reports using relevant EDPs, design standards, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs.
Evaluate, select, and apply OT Cyber engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment.
Interpret and implement cybersecurity requirements; evaluate and verify the requirements in engineered systems.
Provide technical assistance to other OT Cyber personnel and interact with project functions, customers, and regulatory agencies to resolve complex regulatory issues and industry codes.
Collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Information Systems and Technology, and other cybersecurity professionals.
Education and Experience Requirements
BS degree from a U.S. accredited institution in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Systems, Controls Systems or related discipline plus 5–8 years of relevant experience; or without a degree, 9–12 years of relevant experience.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must complete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
Minimum Qualifications – Required Knowledge and Skills
Proficiency in cybersecurity program standards such as NIST SP 800‑37, SP 800‑53, SP 800‑82; CNSSI 1253; ISA/IEC 62443; NRC RG 5.71; NEI 08‑09.
Experience with vendors’ control system software (Schneider, ABB, Emerson, Honeywell, Siemens, Allen Bradley).
Experience supporting OT/ICS design engineering, procurement, startup, and operations.
Experience with OT/ICS systems communication protocols, architecture concepts, configurations, and standards.
Experience reviewing and preparing IC/SCADA cybersecurity engineering products: plans, studies, vendor documentation, requirements, technical specifications, drawings, network design, and risk assessments.
Proficiency in preparing detailed OT cybersecurity specifications, data sheets, and requisitions from OT cybersecurity codes and standards.
Experience with Systems Engineering concepts and practices.
Experience with industry‑standard cybersecurity solutions and practices across operating systems, directory services, policy, logging/telemetry, networking/telecommunications, and vulnerability management.
Strong communication and collaboration skills enabling independent and/or team-based technical work.
Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Ability to multi‑task, meet tight project deadlines, and execute work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
PE or EIT Registration.
Commercial nuclear power OT cybersecurity or I&C CSAT experience, including cyber security requirements, specifications, procurements, and critical systems screening per RC/NEI guidance.
ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Expert, GISCP, CISSP, or Security+ CE certifications.
Proficiency in network security, L2/L3 networking, and virtual environments.
