The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) is the primary provider of public mental health, substance abuse, and intellectual disability services for the City of Norfolk. A continuum of services spans from outreach and prevention through intensive psychiatric care, provided by highly clinically oriented service professionals with expertise in these service areas.
Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. The NCSB is seeking a Prevention Community Educator (Program Coordinator) who works as part of a team implementing programming, conducting training, and providing education around initiatives and campaigns such as suicide prevention, opioid overdose awareness and prevention, problem gambling, marijuana use, underage alcohol/tobacco/vaping, gun safety and many other areas.
Department Hiring Salary Range: $46,589 - $53,577
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Provides education for youth and adult citizens on behavioral health, substance use and wellness initiatives.
Networks and collaborates with community stakeholders.
Provide referrals and information on services and resources available.
Facilitate training and presentations, both virtual and in-person.
Attend community events, representing the City of Norfolk.
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Two years' experience.
Preferred Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree and experience in behavioral health and/or substance use disorders. Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment.
