OVERVIEW
Merrick & Company is seeking a licensed Transportation Engineer in our Tampa Office. We are looking for an individual that wants to advance their career by joining our talented and highly collaborative Engineering Team. With a minimum of two (2) years specializing in highway/roadway design and six (6) years of overall civil engineering project experience, the prospective candidate will work with our team to successfully complete conceptual design exhibits and final design construction documents for highway and roadway improvement projects. A career‑minded professional with self‑confidence and a teachable spirit would find themselves advancing quickly in our family‑oriented organization. The ideal candidate should have strong relationships with individuals at the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and should have previous experience working on FDOT projects.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Design and plan transportation infrastructure such as roads, highways, bridges, and transit systems
Analyze traffic patterns and transportation data to identify areas for improvement
Conduct environmental impact assessments for proposed projects
Develop and implement traffic management and safety plans
Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates
Collaborate with urban planners, architects, and government agencies
Perform site inspections to ensure compliance with design and safety standards
Use modeling and simulation software to predict traffic flow and system performance
Ensure transportation systems meet accessibility standards for all users
Oversee construction projects and coordinate with contractors and stakeholders. Assist with the coordination, development and production of proposals, and presentations, ensuring the highest quality of information and documentation output.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university
6 years’ experience in civil engineering with 2+ years specializing in transportation engineering
Florida Professional Engineers License
Self‑starter with strong oral and written communication skills
Detail oriented, proactive individual who takes ownership of their work
Proficiency in the following software: Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), MicroStation – using latest FDOT CADD requirements, GEOPAK, GuideSIGN, AutoTURN;
Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer (3D modeling) preferred
Candidates must be familiar with FDOT design project delivery
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates outside of the Tampa area will be required to relocate
Ability to work well in team environment
