Position Level: This position will be filled at the QPA Specialist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills, education, and experience of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

QPA Specialist 1 ($64,700 - $101,400) Come join our team! This position is based in the Institutional Quality (IQPA-IQ) group and reports to the IQPA-IQ Receipt Inspection and Verifications Leader. The selected candidate’s primary responsibility is to ensure product quality through receipt inspections. These inspections require planning, performing, and reporting/presenting results. Inspections are performed in accordance with customer specified criteria and in accordance with nuclear facility (NQA-1) and weapons related (DOE/NNSA NAP-401.1) requirements to ensure that specified technical and quality requirements are met.

Other duties include: providing assistance to LANL customer organizations on quality assurance issues and activities, and supporting the supply chain quality programs such as receipt inspection, suspect/counterfeit, and supplier evaluation.

QPA Specialist 2 ($78,700 - $125,100) In addition to the responsibilities at the lower level, at this level you will be expected to have experience in quality concepts and principles and initiating and reviewing quality inspection reports.

What You Need Minimum Job Requirements

Basic knowledge and experience of 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D, national consensus standard ASME NQA-1-2008/ASME NQA-1a-2009 Addenda, NAP-401.1, and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series or equivalent.

Basic knowledge and experience with quality concepts and principles and how these are applied.

Experience with inspection principles and practices.

Experience in performing detailed reviews of quality documentation to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory defined requirements.

Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated experience interacting and effectively communicating with all levels of customers and management.

Experience in preparing and presenting quality assurance reports.

Experience in effective decision-making and risk management regarding complex technical issues.

Additional Job Requirements for QPA Specialist 2

Demonstrated full understanding of quality concepts and principles and how these are applied plus working knowledge of other related fields and, in addition, documented record of resolving a wide range of issues.

Demonstrated basic knowledge of and experience with quality assurance regulations, orders, and national consensus standards.

Demonstrated experience with inspection principles and practices in addition to performing detailed reviews of quality documentation to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory defined requirements.

Demonstrated experience in scheduling and arranging own activities in accomplishing objectives.

Demonstrated experience in preparing and presenting quality assurance reports; strong oral and written communication skills; and experience interacting and effectively communicating with all levels of customers and management.

Training/Certifications:

Current or former professional certification(s) in the quality field required.

Education/Experience at lower level:

Position requires an Associate’s Degree in a relevant field or combination of technical certification and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level:

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications QPA Specialist 1

Experience in the preparation of QA procedures for review, approval, and issues in accordance

Previous experience as a qualified receipt inspector.

Experience leading and supporting quality assessments, surveillances, and/or audits.

Desired Qualifications QPA Specialist 2

Demonstrated experience leading and/or supporting quality assessments, surveillances, and/or audits.

Demonstrated experience in the preparation of QA procedures for review, approval, and issue in accordance with requirements and/or standards.

Demonstrated experience with Causal Analysis, Six Sigma, or other Quality Management related skills.

Documented experience as a qualified receipt inspector.

Current or former professional certification(s) in the quality field required.

Essential Job Functions This position requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, twisting, squatting, kneeling, working on your feet, working outdoors, working in a warehouse environment, working in radiation buffer areas, and ability to perform visual inspections using corrected or non-corrected vision.

Work Location The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Note to Applicants Occasional travel may be required to perform receipt inspection duties.

Where You Will Work The Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance Division (IQPA) provides contractor assurance, institutional quality assurance (QA), performance management, and independent assessment services to customers throughout the Laboratory.

The Institutional Quality (IQ) group supports the Laboratory by assisting organizations to ensure quality work is executed consistently and effectively across the institution. The IQ mission is to integrate quality requirements into engineering processes, validate that policies and programs meet regulatory and customer requirements.

Additional Details Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q

(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
