CTE INTERPRETER

Job Summary This position is a classified, hourly role based on Schedule A – Market Driven. The CTE Interpreter will work at South Kitsap High School, reporting to the CTE Administrator. The primary duty is to interpret American Sign Language (ASL) for Deaf teachers and students, ensuring classroom instruction is accessible to all.
Core Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Collaborate with certified staff to lead, guide, and coordinate with students.
Interpret spoken language to sign language and vice versa for classroom communication.
Relay teacher’s ASL to students so they can gain subject knowledge.
Monitor student interactions and provide accurate feedback to the teacher.
Participate in meetings and trainings to improve skills and knowledge.
Provide clerical and general classroom assistance (data entry, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing instructional materials).
Work under limited supervision using standardized practices, including budgeting where applicable.
Utilize resources from other units as required for job functions. \ Other Functions
Perform related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the unit.

Job Requirements (Minimum Qualifications) Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
Required to prepare and maintain accurate records; perform basic math; read technical information; compose documents; facilitate group discussions; solve practical problems. Must be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signing Exact English (SEE). Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, work with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, and manage equipment is essential.
Experience
Job‑related experience in a specialized field is required.
Education (Minimum)
Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in a job‑related area emphasizing ASL or SEE; must achieve a 3.5 score on the performance portion of the Education Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or hold Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification and pass the written EIPA assessment.
Certificates and Licenses
EIPA with a minimum score of 4.0 and the EIPA written test with a passing score.
Or, National Interpreter Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and the EIPA written test with a passing score.
Continuing Education/Training
Maintains certificates and/or licenses.
Clearances
Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.
Other Requirements
