Area Supervisor Ross Stores, Inc.

The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership responsible for a specific assigned area of the store as well as the general operations and supervision of the store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. They are responsible for opening and closing the store, supervising associates and maintaining a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment. They also ensure proper merchandise presentation and a clean work area.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Prioritizes safety, practices safe behaviours, maintains awareness on sales floor.

Monitors building security, controls entrances/exits, checks EAS, maintains cash office security.

Ensures clear egress, removes clutter.

Manages customer safety: accident prevention, reporting, emergency procedures.

Tests fire alarm systems as scheduled, responds to after‑hours alarms.

Customer Service

Treats customers, associates and leaders with respect.

Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness and professionalism at all times.

Recognises associates using Company recognition programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.

Maintains professional appearance, enforces dress code.

Keeps store clean, well‑maintained, merchandised to standard; responsible for daily trash removal.

General Merchandising

Ensures recovery, sizing and markdowns per Company standards.

Receives merchandise truck when needed, processes merchandise urgently.

Handles non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.

Manages cleanliness and organization of stockrooms.

Helps deliver and place merchandise on sales floor.

Secures and processes back‑stock per policy.

Oversees merchandising of department and back‑stock.

Reduces loss due to damage.

Ensures compliance with monthly presentation guidelines and floor moves, including promotions.

Loss Prevention

Complies with Loss Prevention Awareness Program, maintains consumer presence.

Acts with integrity and honesty with associates and customers.

Safeguards confidential, cash and credit card information and merchandise.

Maintains Public View Monitor system; conducts “Code 50” inspections.

Executes Company Best‑Practice, maximises productivity.

Front‑End Supervision & Operations

Maintains productivity, energy; manages line to expedite customer wait.

Trains and coaches associates on cash registers, shortage control and other front‑end procedures.

Controls associate break schedule, ensures equipment working properly, supplies restocked.

Expedites go‑backs, ensures scanned, security tagged, ticketed.

Teaches “Scan and Bag” best practice.

Ensures merchandised availability on front‑end.

Fitting Rooms

Maintains cleanliness of fitting rooms.

Audits and accounts garment tags to policy.

Ensures go‑back compliance; returned merchandise ticketed, scanned, nubbed, security tagged.

Administrative Duties (as Assigned)

Conducts cash pulls, bank deposits per policy.

Manages front‑end control, refunds, approvals, tills, cash safe, register media, break schedules.

Handles payroll administration: punch edits, scheduling, Sunday payroll transmission, payroll reporting.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Fluency in English.

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations common in retail.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements / ADA

Use all store equipment including PDTs, registers and PC.

Stand, walk, move 100 % of work time.

Bend at waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, stoop.

Occasionally push/pull & lift over 25 lb.

Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders.

Stockroom shifts require push/pull & lift over 20 lb.

Supervisory Responsibilities
