Job Description Duties include, but are not limited to: working as a clinical perfusionist, intraoperative blood salvage, ECMO, VADS, completing satisfactory performance appraisals and competency assessments, clinical education, and completing departmental projects in a timely manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of department leadership, actively ensure adequate coverage for all cardiac surgical and cell saving procedures.
Call (30-minute radius) and provide additional services outside normal working hours.
Complete the pre‑bypass checklist prior to cardiopulmonary bypass to ensure that the appropriate resources are available and in satisfactory condition for the surgery.
Review the patient’s chart prior to surgery to better anticipate peri‑operative and post‑operative problems.
At the discretion of the surgeon, initiate and terminate extracorporeal circulation.
Employ safety devices, such as an air bubble detector and low‑level alarms.
Maintain appropriate blood flow, blood pressure, and volume in extracorporeal circuits and keep it at a safe level.
Administer cardioplegia solutions, medication, blood products, anesthetic agents, or intravenous solutions as prescribed.
Maintain appropriate gas exchange, patient body temperature, and anticoagulation status according to established protocols.
Operate intra‑operative blood salvage equipment and calculate projected flow rates, medication doses, and blood replacement needs.
Monitor and maintain ECMO and MCS devices and assist with implantation.
Provide point‑of‑care testing, complying with all CLIA and CAP guidelines.
As part of the liver transplant team, perform veno‑veno bypass, auto‑transfusion, and rapid infusion.
Develop strong collaborative relationships with physicians, AP staff, ECMO teams, and healthcare professionals.
Assist in building a culture that drives quality, patient safety, intra‑department teamwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Maintain courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
Support actively working staff and uphold the expected level of professionalism in the department, hospital, and healthcare system.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
Graduate of an accredited perfusion program.
Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or eligible for certification.
Licensed, or eligible for licensure, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, physicians, management, and operating room personnel.
Ability to make independent judgments to resolve complex problems.
Pay Range $180,003.00 USD – $243,006.00 USD (annual base salary, subject to factors such as seniority, education, training, experience, certifications, geography, and responsibilities).
