Project managers serve as a key part of an informal leadership structure, mentoring junior staff and leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex projects.

Project Management Responsibilities

Lead a cross‑functional team to execute substation, transmission line, and telecommunication projects from inception through design, construction and closeout.

Oversee 5‑20 projects concurrently of varying sizes ($100k‑$50M) and voltages (4kV‑765kV).

Manage projects for schedule adherence, identifying risks and requirements to achieve the project’s in‑service date.

Navigate client gate approval processes, including presentations to senior and executive management as required.

Maintain accurate cost forecasts reflecting committed and uncommitted costs for an estimate‑at‑completion.

Coordinate craft labor resources with client‑approved vendors for construction, testing and other field activities.

Provide regular status updates on projects, maintaining project data and routine reporting.

Lead project meetings with cost, schedule, real estate, environmental, construction and engineering resources to facilitate execution.

Portfolio Management Responsibilities

Assist in developing a multi‑year capital expenditure plan to support client’s replacement and betterment of electric transmission and distribution assets.

Interface regularly with project sponsor organizations to determine details of proposed plans and business justification.

Ensure synergies across projects to prevent duplicate or inefficient scope.

Monitor composition of capital investment allocation to align with subsidiary investment targets for optimal rate of return.

Engage with project sponsors to evaluate realistic schedules and budgets.

Assist with creation and compilation of rate filing support for federal and state filings.

Review engineering estimates, change requests and reconcile them with the portfolio of work.

Coordinate with the client’s accounting group to establish financial setup for projects.

Build baseline scopes, schedules and budgets to be released to stakeholders.

Outage/Construction Sequencing Responsibilities

Develop substation and transmission project construction lifecycles focused on outage efficiency and constructability.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting specified deliverable dates and expectations.

Analyze scoping and project documents to determine boundaries within the substation and the electric grid.

Conduct site walkdowns and project calls to establish achievable construction sequences and outages.

Coordinate with drafting resources to create engineering‑caliber drawings documenting the project evolution.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related field from an accredited program and 7+ years applicable experience.

Prior experience on construction project sites or in program management across aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution or water.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, demanding environment and work overtime on short notice.

Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Collaborative experience with owners, contractors, engineers and designers in a multidisciplinary project team.

Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software.
