Program Director
Boise State University is seeking a Program Director to support its Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher preparation pipeline, strengthening Idaho’s educators by designing and implementing new certification programs.
Department Overview The College of Education engages in award‑winning educator preparation, graduate and doctoral programs, meaningful research, and community partnerships. Programs span undergraduate to doctoral degrees, offering on‑campus and fully online options.
Level Scope Manages a program with critical campus impact. Holds significant responsibility for policy and program formulation, administration of human and financial resources, and autonomy in decision‑making. Influences senior leadership decisions and oversees subordinate managers, ensuring stewardship of campus resources.
Essential Functions
Lead development and implementation of new CTE educator preparation and certification programs, ensuring alignment with state accreditation standards.
Create and manage clear recruitment pathways for high‑school students to transition into Boise State’s CTE teacher certification programs; conduct outreach visits to Region 3 high schools.
Serve as primary conduit between high‑school CTSOs, the Idaho Division of Career Technical Education, and Boise State’s College of Education leadership and faculty.
Provide direct guidance and academic advising to prospective high‑school students on pathways to CTE teacher certification.
Track, monitor, and report student data (inquiries, applications, enrollment, retention, completion, placement) to assess recruitment effectiveness and meet reporting requirements.
Facilitate regular meetings with high‑school CTE educators and College of Education faculty and staff to discuss curriculum alignment and new teacher preparation pathways.
Co‑ordinate collaboration among existing university faculty and adjunct instructors to support instructional design and delivery of coursework for new CTE programs.
Develop and disseminate targeted recruitment materials for high‑school students interested in becoming CTE educators.
Manage program logistics, support CTSO‑related activities for teacher candidates, and pursue grant‑writing opportunities to sustain the programs.
Work with the Associate Dean for Educator Preparation to ensure all program activities are completed and performance‑based outcomes are met.
Perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong track record of building and managing strategic partnerships with state agencies, industry leaders, and educational institutions.
Demonstrated success in academic program development and curriculum alignment.
Proven experience in student recruitment and targeted outreach, particularly with rural populations.
Direct experience working with Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) and deep knowledge of their content areas and pipeline development potential.
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to monitor program effectiveness, forecast enrollment, and inform continuous improvement.
Experience in grant writing and annual reporting tied to key measures and outcomes.
Knowledge of higher‑education administration, including academic advising practices and collaboration with university programs.
Ability to professionally present, market, and promote academic programs to stakeholders, including students, parents, and educators.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and eight years of experience or equivalent, including five years of managerial experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Five years of CTE teaching experience or equivalent.
Formal work experience in rural school districts and CTE programs.
Salary and Benefits Salary range: $80,828.80 – $97,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
12 paid holidays; University closed between Christmas and New Year’s (requires use of 3 vacation days).
12–24 annual paid vacation days for full‑time staff, depending on position type and years of service.
10.76% University contribution to ORP retirement fund (Professional and Faculty employees).
11.96% University contribution to PERSI retirement fund (Classified employees).
