Maintenance Supervisor– Detroit Facility
Location: Detroit, MI
Direct Reports: 9–12 (across 3 shifts)
Departments under oversight: Plating, Heat Treat, and Locking & Sealing / Wire Processing
We are a well-established, family-oriented fastener manufacturer serving the automotive and industrial sectors. The company operates three key departments: Plating, Heat Treat, and Locking & Sealing. The Maintenance Manager will play a critical role in keeping production running smoothly, ensuring safety, and leading a skilled team in a fast-paced, hands‑on environment.
Position Summary The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing maintenance strategy, equipment reliability, and the day-to-day operation of maintenance personnel across all departments. This individual will lead a multi-shift team, manage hiring and training, coordinate repairs, develop preventive maintenance programs, and support continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have strong electrical and mechanical expertise, the ability to make independent decisions, and proven leadership in manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage 9–12 maintenance team members across three shifts
Supervise and prioritize maintenance work for Plating, Heat Treat, and Locking & Sealing departments
Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs
Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, including PLC-controlled systems
Manage budgets, spare parts, and capital improvement projects
Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings
Oversee hiring, training, and development of maintenance staff
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations; boiler license preferred but not required
Coordinate with production, quality, and purchasing to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency
Provide leadership in a high‑paced manufacturing setting
Qualifications
5+ years of hands‑on experience leading industrial maintenance in metal processing or related manufacturing
Strong electrical background with PLC experience preferred
Mechanical aptitude and experience in both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
Ability to make sound, independent decisions and manage multiple priorities
Skilled in blueprint and schematic reading
Experience managing multi‑shift teams and balancing competing deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Highly organized, proactive, and self‑motivated
Boiler license or willingness to obtain one preferred
Working Conditions & Schedule
Full-time, onsite role supporting three shifts
Monday through Friday with occasional weekend support
Mix of office and floor work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
