Position Summary HDR is looking for a Construction EIT to join our Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Program in Charleston, SC. The candidate will work individually and as part of a team of inspectors to verify construction activities, ensure compliance with plans and specifications, and communicate effectively with contractors. Strong communication and problem‑resolution skills are essential, as daily interactions occur with multiple stakeholders. SCDOT certifications for material testing and sampling (asphalt, concrete, foundations) are a plus. The role requires excellent organization to generate and maintain project documentation, including letters, testing reports, and daily diaries.
Responsibilities
Conduct reviews and verifications of construction schedules, and assist in preparing cost estimates and specifications for construction projects
Perform routine engineering assignments requiring spreadsheets, databases, and scheduling software
Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables
Work independently on small projects or assist senior engineers on larger projects
Direct clerical and technical personnel as needed
Perform other duties as required
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or the ability to attain it within 6 months
Candidates hired without an EIT will be titled "Coordinator" and must obtain their EIT for career progression
Minimum of 1 year of construction engineering or inspection experience on SCDOT projects highly preferred
Strong people skills and ability to interact with the construction team
SCDOT Inspector Certifications
Ability to pass SCDOT Inspector Certification classes as assigned
Local candidates are preferred

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a closely related field
Knowledge of MS Office, Primavera, scheduling software, spreadsheets, and databases
Interest and/or experience in the construction field
Excellent oral and written communication skills
