The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine (Interventional Cardiology) at the University of Virginia’s School of Medicine is currently seeking Clinical Research Coordinators (CRC). This position is open to applicants who meet the requirements of Clinical Research Coordinator 1, 2, 3, and 4. The CRC will work closely with physicians, research staff, study subjects, and departmental staff, coordinating all aspects of clinical research from study start‑up through archiving of study records.
Job Responsibilities Include:
Recruitment, screening, and enrollment of study participants who meet research criteria.
Collect basic information through scripted and non‑scripted interviews.
Plan and execute tasks.
Organize and schedule project activities.
Maintain excellent attention to detail.
Apply problem‑solving skills.
Communicate verbally and in writing with clarity and professionalism.
Obtain informed consent from study participants and maintain telephone and in‑person contact.
Collect subject data, maintain logs, track participants, and prepare study materials.
Process, prepare, and ship laboratory specimens.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Clinical Research Coordinator 1, Non‑Licensed Education: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or certifications. Experience: None; some experience in a healthcare setting and/or medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Clinical Research Coordinator 1, Licensed Education: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent; Nursing Diploma may substitute for a degree for Licensed Registered Nurse. Experience: None. Licensure: Licensed to practice in a clinical profession such as Registered Nurse, Athletic Training, Pharmacology, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, or Respiratory Therapy.
Clinical Research Coordinator 2, Non‑Licensed Education: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent. Experience: At least one year of clinical research experience; some experience in a healthcare setting and/or medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Clinical Research Coordinator 2, Licensed Education: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent; Nursing Diploma may substitute for a degree for Licensed Registered Nurse. Experience: At least one year of clinical research experience. Licensure: Licensed to practice in a clinical profession such as Registered Nurse, Athletic Training, Pharmacology, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, or Respiratory Therapy.
Clinical Research Coordinator 3, Non‑Licensed Education: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical research experience required; Master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience. Licensure: Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) is preferred at the time of hire and required within one year.
Clinical Research Coordinator 3, Licensed Education: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent; Nursing Diploma may substitute for a degree for Licensed Registered Nurse. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical research experience; Master’s or advanced degree may substitute for 1 year of experience. Licensure: Licensed to practice in a clinical profession such as Registered Nurse, Athletic Training, Pharmacology, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, or Respiratory Therapy.

Experience: At least seven years of clinical research experience demonstrating progressive responsibility and complexity; Master’s or other advanced degree may substitute for one year of experience. Licensure: Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) required within one year.
Clinical Research Coordinator 4, Licensed Education: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent; Nursing Diploma may substitute for a degree for Licensed Registered Nurse. Experience: At least seven years of clinical research experience demonstrating progressive responsibility and complexity; Master’s or other advanced degree may substitute for one year of experience. Licensure: Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) required within one year; licensed to practice in a clinical profession such as Registered Nurse, Athletic Training, Pharmacology, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, or Respiratory Therapy.
Preferred Experience
Regulatory experience is a plus.
Extensive experience managing multiple clinical research studies simultaneously.
Proficiency with computer/automated data systems.
Effective use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and OneDrive.
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings.
