Base pay range $87,544.00/yr - $113,802.00/yr

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Education: A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Certification: Must hold one of the certification options:

Generalist certification as an MLS from ASCP BOC or AMT.

Generalist certification as an MT from ASCP BOR or AMT.

Categorical or Specialist certification by ASCP or AMT.

Exception for Non-Certified: Applicants who do not currently hold valid certification may be hired and work toward certification if eligible per Appendix A. Temporary appointments and limitations apply (see VA policy).

Grade Determinations: Candidates must meet criteria for GS-11 and demonstrate required KSAs (knowledge, skills, abilities), including laboratory quality control, informatics, instrumentation, and communication.

Preferred Experience: Experience in microbiology, chemistry, immunology or similar laboratory disciplines.

Duties

Develop, perform, evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory procedures and results.

Perform testing on biological specimens using manual or automated techniques with independent judgment.

Manage day‑to‑day laboratory operations, including testing, reporting, quality control, equipment maintenance, and supply inventory.

Maintain QC records, calibrate and troubleshoot instruments, and document corrective actions.

Interpret results and provide follow‑up recommendations.

Work schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., rotating holidays and weekends; subject to change.
