About the role As a Nuclear Core Design Engineer 1 you will participate in introductory nuclear design specific training to lead to a Westinghouse Nuclear Design (ND) qualification.
You will report to the manager - Nuclear Design. This is a hybrid work schedule, based in Cranberry, PA.
Key Responsibilities
Embrace the nuclear culture - Understand what makes Nuclear special and implement human performance tools and operating experience to produce high quality error free customer deliverables.
Perform nuclear core design reload calculations by using the internal and external nuclear core design simulation codes, following internal methodology and design manuals, and consulting with experienced peer and mentor engineers.
Participants will interpret the results and work with independent engineering verifiers and to produce and deliver quality calculations to operating PWR plants.
Participate in engineering learning seminars to maintain qualification and learn and apply lessons learned and operational experience in core design.
Become a member of a core reload team and work with the nuclear plant customer to provide high quality analyses on a core reload schedule.
You will interface with departments within Core Engineering (Thermal Hydraulics, Fuel Rod Design, Project Management) and groups outside CE (Safety Analysis and Licensing).
Examples of the type of nuclear design calculations may include the following for Westinghouse PWR plant designs
Qualifications
0 years experience
Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering Required (not open to other engineering disciplines).
Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred
Applicable experience helpful
Interest in Core Neutronics and Nuclear Fuel Design
Computer simulation experience helpful, but not strictly required
The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $58,400 to $73,000 per year.
