Virology Technical Supervisor
Are you confident in your ability to interpret and analyze results/data and troubleshoot technical issues? Do you meet CLIA's requirements for technical supervisors in high complexity virology laboratories? The Utah Public Health Laboratory is seeking for a detail-oriented individual to fill their role of Virology Technical Supervisor.

MUST meet CLIA's requirements for technical supervisors in high complexity virology laboratories. These requirements can be met in one of the following ways:
Have earned a bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical technology; and at least 4 years of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing within microbiology with at least 6 months experience in high complexity testing within virology.
Have earned a master's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology; and at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing within microbiology with at least 6 months experience in high complexity testing within virology
Have an earned doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science; and at least 1 year of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing within microbiology with at least 6 months experience in high complexity testing within virology
A doctor of medicine, doctor of osteopathy, or doctor of podiatric medicine licensed to practice medicine, osteopathy, or podiatry in the State in which the laboratory is located; and have at least 1 year of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing within microbiology with a minimum of 6 months experience in high complexity testing within virology
A doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State in which the laboratory is located; and be certified in clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology or the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology or possess qualifications that are equivalent to those required for such certification
Responsibilities:
Processing specimens for laboratory analysis
Performing molecular and serological based assays
Perform necropsy of animals for Rabies testing
Performing test validations
Drafting, writing and/or updating SOPs and grants
Evaluating quality control and performing corrective actions
Performing instrument maintenance
Troubleshooting interfaces between laboratory equipment and laboratory information systems
Monitoring testing processes for accuracy and timeliness
Communicating with Epidemiologists and local partners Ideal
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimal experience in high complexity testing commensurate to education degree per CLIA TS requirements (e.g. 4 years with a BS; 2 years with a MS; 1 year with a Ph.D.)
Excellent communication skills
Experience with quality control and quality assurance practices
Basic knowledge of Molecular Biology
Preferred Qualifications:
Meets CLIA's requirements for technical supervisors in high complexity virology laboratories as outlined above
Experience with quality control and quality assurance
Previous experience in performing Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Basic knowledge of Molecular Biology
