Overnight Counselor Assistant
Location: 130 Rumsey St, Bath, NY
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: $18.00
About the Role
The Overnight Counselor Assistant is an awake position responsible for the safety of residents and facilities between 10 PM and 8:00 AM. The assistant provides counseling and emergency services as needed and performs Quality Assurance tasks as designated by the Program Director and Program Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Observes behavior and ensures maintenance of appropriate conduct.
- Always provides for the safety and integrity of the facility.
- Ensures all records are locked and medications are stored and monitored according to program policy.
- Ensures the adherence of confidentiality regulations.
- Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with residents, staff and community professionals.
- Provides crisis management as needed and identifies symptoms of concern for appropriate treatment providers.
- Maintains professional practice and adheres to Agency’s policies and procedures.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
- Does not leave the facility unattended without the verbal consent of the Program Supervisor.
Night Counselor Responsibilities: Daily
- Identifies and counts all controlled medications.
- Checks medication log to ensure counselors are documenting missed medications in both the log and the resident’s progress notes.
- Places a shift entry in the daily log. Notes any concerns in the log and/or progress notes.
Night Counselor Responsibilities: Weekly
- Count all medication at the beginning of each week and forward a report to the Clinical supervisor.
- Prepare the weekly case review list. Send copies to case managers and Clinical Supervisor.
- Compile drug screening data and advise the Clinical Supervisor.
- Prepare the room list at the beginning of each week. Post copies in the office; fax or e‑mail copies to the business office for the attention of the bookkeeper and the Residential Services Director.
Night Counselor Responsibilities: Monthly
- Audit all charts of residents discharged within thirty days of discharge; if charts are not complete, list deficiencies and give copies to the counselor and program supervisor.
- Prepare the next month’s medication sheet on the last work shift of the month.
- Organize the bulletin boards in the office and hallway. Keep postings current.
- Collect monthly work readiness reports from counselors, complete the report, and send to Program Director.
Night Counselor Responsibilities: Semi‑yearly or Yearly
- Audit 50% of the active records twice a year (June and December). Record results on the program audit tools and give the program supervisor completed reports. List the audited charts on the audit log sheet in the Quality Assurance notebook and send a copy to the Program Director by January 1st.
- Prepare a summary of the resident surveys collected throughout the previous year and send to Program Director by March 1st.
- Complete “county of origin reports” for both the CR and SLP; send to Program Director by March 1st.
- Complete the unplanned discharge report detailing reasons for unplanned discharges; send to Program Director by March 1st.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required.
- Must be 21 years of age per Justice Center.
- Training specific to CD will be required within the first year of hire.
- CASAC‑t preferred.
- Ability to operate program vehicles.
- Related/residential experience in chemical dependency or human services field.
Preferred Skills
- Adhere to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including confidentiality, privacy, program, billing and documentation standards. All duties must be performed in accordance with CCDR’s corporate compliance and ethics program.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations, including low to moderate‑income families.
- Ability to multi‑task and prioritize duties.
- Willingness to foster agency, department and program‑wide cooperation and teamwork through positive/constructive communication techniques.
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all records reviewed, including client records, employee records and billing records.
- Proficiency and experience with PCs and Microsoft applications.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and to handle problem resolution.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license; a driver’s record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.
