Job Description
A prominent provider of high-quality construction materials in the United States is currently seeking an Equipment Operator to join its team at the Hayfield Quarry in Fredericksburg, VA. This role involves operating and configuring various types of machinery, ensuring optimal performance, overseeing maintenance, and conducting regular quality checks.
In this position, you will safely and efficiently operate excavators for tasks such as digging trenches and foundations, as well as loading and unloading materials like soil and rocks. You will be responsible for performing routine inspections to maintain the excavator's functionality and collaborating with site supervisors and crew members to coordinate excavation efforts. Adhering to site plans and safety guidelines is essential, as is monitoring for hazards and reporting any safety issues or equipment malfunctions. Additionally, you will assist with backfilling and grading post-excavation, maintain accurate logs of your work, and uphold a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental policies, fostering a culture of safety in all operations.

Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Required Work Experience: Minimum 2 years experience
- Proven experience operating excavators and other heavy equipment on construction or excavation sites.
- Strong understanding of excavation safety procedures and OSHA compliance standards.
- Safely maneuver around underground utilities and structures to avoid damage during digging operations.
- Use specialized excavator attachments (e.g., hydraulic breakers, thumbs, or augers) for diverse site needs.
- Assist with trench shoring and proper slope cutting to maintain safe excavation conditions.
- Communicate with spotters and ground crews using hand signals or radios to coordinate movement.
- Support site cleanup by loading materials into dump trucks and removing excess debris post-excavation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for performing routine equipment inspections and minor repairs.
- Physical stamina and strength to work in demanding outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness for precise equipment operation.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
