Overview Mass General Brigham (MGH), a not‑for‑profit organization dedicated to patient care, research, teaching, and community service, is looking for a Phlebotomist to work at 15 Parkman Street, Boston, MA. The position offers a generous sign‑on bonus of $3,000 and a starting pay rate of $19.85 per hour with potential for growth. The role is full‑time (40 hours/week) and is scheduled for day shift.
Job Summary Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Clinical Support Services, the Phlebotomist collects blood, urine, and nasal swab specimens for laboratory analysis, provides patient education on safety protocols, maintains customer focus, and performs related clerical duties.
Responsibilities Collect specimens using good judgment, following policies and procedures; verify two patient identifiers and match requisitions, labels, and patient identification cards.
Practice hand hygiene according to unit guidelines.
Select appropriate specimen collection equipment and site for blood collection.
Tie tourniquet, prepare site, and perform venipuncture.
Collect specimen per order of draw; ensure adequate mixing of specimen in tube.
Label specimen in the presence of patient.
Package and transport specimens to laboratory.
Monitor patient for bleeding and ensure stability.
Check for potential adverse reactions (e.g., fainting history, latex allergy) before collection.
Provide patient‑focused care and maintain privacy; comply with HIPAA guidelines.
Assist with EKG, clerical, and specimen transport functions when qualified.
Assist with pediatric and ancillary phlebotomy services as required.
Serve as front‑desk reception at Specimen Collection Center, handling fax, filing, and telephone duties.
Maintain supply inventory and complete monthly inventory checks.
Complete required continuing education for phlebotomy, life safety, HIPAA, and other training.
Collaborate effectively with co‑workers and demonstrate strong communication skills.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a training program that includes phlebotomy skills with demonstrated competency.
Preferred: One year of work experience and national certification in phlebotomy.
