Electronic Integrated Control Systems Technician (Industrial Controls)
Position: Five 1st Shift M‑F Positions (5 positions)
Location: Storrs Campus, Storrs, CT
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (unpaid 30‑min lunch)

Salary Range (Yearly): $86,289 – $112,465 (hourly $41.33 for new State employees; current NP‑2 salary/step applied)

Overview
The UConn Facilities Operations Department at the Storrs Campus is hiring five Electronic Integrated Control Systems (EICS) Technicians to support the Cogeneration Plant, the Supplemental Utility Plant, and the upcoming South Campus Geothermal System and Chiller Plant. Positions report to a Lead Power Plant Operator and are classified as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff, requiring readiness for emergency closures and overtime response.
Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain building distribution infrastructure and power plant equipment to ensure safe operation of high‑pressure superheated steam, electrical power, and chilled water.
- Inspect equipment for reliability, detecting faults through vibration, noise, temperature, and leaks.
- Calibrate and repair gauges and instruments, documenting performance in log deficiency reports.
- Coordinate equipment abnormality reports and assist in diagnosis.
- Perform preventative maintenance repairs.
- Adhere to emergency response duties during inclement weather or campus events; provide after‑hours support as required.
Qualifications – Minimum
- Five (5) years’ experience in installation assistance, monitoring, instrumentation calibration, maintenance, repair, and programming of electronic industrial controls integrated into a distributed control system (DCS).
- Successful completion of an Electronic Integrated Control Systems Trainee program may substitute for the general experience requirement.
- Substitutions: Two (2) years of vocational or technical school completion in electronic systems/maintenance technology; up to two (2) years of college training in electronics or electrical/mechanical engineering (15 semester hours equals 0.5 year, capped at 2 years).
- Current motor vehicle operator license.
- Lawful permission to work in the United States.
- Ability to drive and operate motor vehicles (vans, box trucks, pickup trucks).
Preferred Qualifications
- State of Connecticut trades license (Heating, Piping and Cooling, Electrical, Plumbing and Heating, or OE2).
- Experience with CMMS (AiM), safety systems, Pi data historian, SCADA, GEifixx, Beamex calibration systems, air‑emissions monitoring.
- Supervisory and leadership experience.
- Operations of combustion turbines, fuel cell or geothermal systems, large industrial boilers, steam turbines, and gas/electric/steam chillers.
- Understanding of electrical high‑voltage 69 kV/13.8 kV grid.
- Maintenance of utility metering systems.
Physical and Work Conditions
- Physical strength and stamina to lift up to 75 lbs., climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and handle tools.
- Possibility of exposure to equipment hazards, heat, noise, and work at heights.
- May require a physical examination and drug testing.
- Occasional travel and overtime (night, weekend, holiday).
