Job Description Executive Director of Finance Esoteric Operations is a key strategic business partner to the SVP of Esoteric Operations and reports to the VP, Finance – Regional Businesses & Enterprise Operations. The Esoteric region has eight laboratories in six states across the U.S. These labs serve as the major referral labs for Quest Diagnostics’ regional labs, as well as hospitals, and U.S. and international labs. Our offerings include tests that are non-routine, multifaceted or fall into special expertise departments. The Esoteric labs combined have the largest test menu of highly complex tests, more than any other lab company in the world. This position works very closely with all six regional leadership teams along with all Clinical Franchises, R&D, all support functions and corporate to help drive growth and new test deployment. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving enhancements to profitability and sound management of business investments and capital deployment. The candidate will be expected to routinely provide business insights, take lead on activities related to close, forecast, outlook, budget and special projects. Although aligned with the Esoteric Region, incumbent may have broader responsibility for national initiatives on cost improvement or capital investment decisions at the direction of other functional leadership. Location: Hybrid (minimum 3 days in-office per week) at Quest’s Esoteric Lab in Chantilly, VA, San Juan Capistrano, CA, or Lewisville, TX. Responsibilities
Serves as a critical strategic business partner to SVP of Esoteric Operations. Support all strategic projects and provide financial guidance and leadership. Reporting and working closely with the VP Finance – Regional Businesses & Enterprise Operations on all areas of financial performance and people development. Collaborate to drive business performance with the Regional Leadership Team. Drives business performance, including the execution of business strategies to grow revenue, increase profitability and contain costs. Serves as a liaison between Regions and all Corporate functions, especially Centers of Excellence/Shared Services including but not limited to Centralized Accounting, Revenue Control, Financial, Planning & Analysis, Pricing and Business Development. Active participant in Market Strategy to review and prioritize strategic growth initiatives based on financial returns. P&L accountability, as part of monthly close process – “owns the P&L.” Collaborate with centralized teams during the Month End Close and budget/forecasting processes (P&L, Financial Reporting, and General Accounting). Provide business insights on Region’s performance to Regional leadership, Corporate and All Regions for the work performed at Esoteric locations. Budget/Forecasting processes – provide business trends/insights/actions to FP&A. Identify issues/opportunities to improve performance (growth, productivity, etc.). Business modeling and analysis, as well as client account management and profitability analysis. The implementation of physical inventory controls and asset management controls. Invigorate saving tracking, analysis and reporting. Support R&D with new test launches. Capital investment analysis, fixed asset tagging and Asset management controls. Lab Sub Analytics for Inner Company work performed by Esoteric for all Regions and International. Purchase testing arrangements. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required. CPA or MBA preferred. International experience desired. Approx. 15+ years’ experience of professional accounting/finance experience. Demonstrates a strong knowledge of operational and financial processes and practical application of financial and strategic analysis. Highly self-motivated to “make a difference.” Strong project management skills, process improvement skills, strong analytical skills. Capable of deploying and articulating strategic solutions to prospective business challenges. Extensive Microsoft Excel, database skills strongly desired. Demonstrates exceptional skill in working with senior management and the executive team. Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
