Detailed Description Assists in the development and implementation of both the educational and the athletic components of the NCAA Division I program, supports general business operations, and runs baseball camps and clinics.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Head Coach with Recruiting
Identify and recruit academically and athletically qualified student‑athletes in accordance with admissions and athletic department policies.
Evaluate high‑school and junior‑college talent through game observation, tournaments, and film.
Conduct weekly phone conversations with prospects.
Follow-up on junior recruiting prospects as instructed by the head coach.
Request transcripts and coordinate with registrars and counselors.
Work directly with the USD admissions liaison.
Assist with home visits, including preparation, presentation, and participation.
Coordinate unofficial visits per NCAA regulations.
Coordinate official visits, including travel, meals, entertainment, academic meetings, and campus tours.
Pass the NCAA coaches’ recruiting test annually.
Assist Head Coach with Teaching and Coaching
Help plan and implement daily practices.
Provide on‑field coaching as assigned.
Assist player skill development before and after practice.
Teach out‑of‑season individual skill sessions within NCAA regulations.
Coordinate live and machine‑based batting practice.
Camps and Clinics
Collaborate with the head coach, assistant director for camps, and associate athletic director to set camp prices, dates, and sites.
Hire staff and complete required background checks and new‑hire paperwork.
Ensure camper safety and consult on behavioral concerns.
General Assignments
Handle NCAA Division I program administration under the head coach.
Supervise players, focusing on health and welfare.
Act as liaison to the baseball team’s athletic academic counselor.
Adhere to university, NCAA, and conference rules, especially recruiting, eligibility, and financial aid.
Enforce alcohol and drug policies.
Prepare budget projections for the competitive schedule, considering academic impact.
Participate in professional development meetings, clinics, and workshops.
Assist in team/department award presentations and statistical record keeping.
Help with the “For the Love of the Game” fundraising event and equipment needs projection.
Scouting
Scout opponents and watch video upon request.
Provide detailed written reports.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Heartsaver CPR / AED / First Aid certification (within 6 weeks of employment).
Pass NCAA Division I Coaches Recruiting Test within 6 weeks of employment.
California driver’s license valid within 6 weeks of employment.
Special Conditions of Employment
Ability to travel for athletic contests and recruiting activities.
Successful completion of required background checks.
Degree Verification Requirement Persons offered employment in this position must provide official education transcripts for degree verification.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of related experience in coaching baseball, preferably at the college level.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
Performance Expectations – Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Effective communication with athletes, recruits, university, community, and media.
Good management skills.
Understanding of NCAA Division I baseball program operations.
Professional representation of the University.
Adherence to NCAA, conference, and league regulations.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Salary and Benefits $9,583.33 – 10,000.00 per month; excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, retirement contribution, and on‑campus fitness center access. The salary range reflects expected compensation; actual offer dependent on experience, education, and departmental budget.
