Citi continues to enhance its business control and governance framework by building out Institutional Credit Management (ICM), a first line of defense business line, to house and consistently manage credit risk activities performed for Citi’s institutional clients. ICM’s objective is to provide integrated end‑to‑end credit underwriting, identification, measurement, management, and monitoring for wholesale credit across the enterprise. The Credit Underwriting function (ICM UW or UW) provides credit analysis, underwriting, and first line of defense credit approval for periodic material transaction reviews and subsequent credit monitoring across all institutional business, including Corporate Banking, Services, and Markets relationships.

The Head of LFCDM manages a global team of corporate underwriters (~375 members) covering large and complex corporates and financial sponsor relationships (both investment and non‑investment grade) within North America, Western Europe and the UK. The role reports directly to the Head of ICM Credit Underwriting and is responsible for all underwriting activities in partnership with Citi Banking, Capital Markets and Risk.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the Leveraged Underwriting team, overseeing credit execution for sponsor‑backed, leveraged acquisition finance, asset‑backed finance, highly leveraged corporates, and pre‑IPO transactions.

Manage the Corporate Developed Markets Underwriting Team, overseeing credit execution for Citi’s corporate clients within North America, Western Europe and the UK (both IG and NIG).

Ensure consistent adoption of leading practices in credit analysis, underwriting, and monitoring, including the end‑to‑end underwriting process from early origination discussions to development of credit approval memos and senior approval forums.

Provide senior credit guidance and process direction to front‑line business coverage, capital markets and risk partners on an ad‑hoc basis.

Provide ad‑hoc updates to risk and senior leadership as needed.

Ensure proper management of team resources and serve as a key point of contact for escalations and guidance.

Review and approve credit approval memo (CAM) packages as both a senior business and leveraged lending credit approver.

Partner with front office on structuring and production of term sheets for new transactions.

Facilitate relationships with key clients in banking, markets and risk (as applicable) and with key regulators, internal audit and control functions.

Support the Head of ICM on strategic initiatives and projects as required.

Risk Management Experience

Senior credit approval authority covering large and complex underwritings, capital commitments, derivatives with multi‑industry experience.

Demonstrated expertise and exposure to global credit risk management standards.

Ability to understand capital markets products and complex financing and product structures.

Ability to provide strategic insights and strong sensitivity to macro and regulatory issues, and impact on risk families including operational and franchise risks.

Able to discuss and address issues associated with the allocation of risk assets and risk capital in partnership with banking and product organizations.

Client Relationships & Business Partnership

Proven ability to understand nuances of local markets, regulations, and competitors’ capabilities and practices.

Navigate organizational complexity and break silos.

Create and sustain a network of strong partnerships with the business in all segments & geographies and other risk functions.

Proven experience managing large teams.

Provide well‑reasoned, balanced assessments of risk/return trade‑offs associated with transactions and client relationships.

Proven track record of partnering with global peers in leveraging and implementing best practices.

Proven ability to execute on strategic projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

20+ years of experience, including 10+ years of managerial experience.

Proven ability to effectively engage with regulators and internal control functions including Internal Audit and Fundamental Credit Risk, as well as external audit.

Demonstrates strong ethics and integrity.

Ability to see the ‘big picture’ in a complex environment.

Can make decisions under pressure and on short timelines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, active listening skills.

Excellent presentation skills – adept at presenting effectively to audiences of various sizes and constituencies.

Bachelor’s or University degree; Master’s degree preferred.
