Position Summary The Project Engineer is responsible for a defined portion of a project and is accountable for establishing effective working relationships with clients and managing the flow of routine information and documents to the entire project team. The Project Engineer maintains up‑to‑date, accurate documents for the project including drawings, master schedule, as‑builts, submittals, logs, test results, etc. The role works closely with the Superintendent to plan and coordinate upcoming work and obtains, tracks and expedites the delivery of equipment and materials to the site. The Project Engineer also assists the Project Manager in monitoring the status of the project and identifying efforts to manage the project more effectively. This is an entry‑level project management position that requires proficiency in core competency areas for managing projects of minor scope (up to $7 million in annual construction cost, or $1 million per month for at least 7 months, or over 150,000 man‑hours).
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
Budget, Schedule, and Cost Control
Develop, maintain, update, distribute, and manage estimates.
Develop and document cost estimates for change orders as assigned by the Project Manager.
Recognize and manage critical paths within the project schedule.
Maintain the master schedule, updating as changes are made.
Count and verify quantities constructed for the weekly labor report.
Assemble delivery tickets and other documentation to support invoice to the client; submit information to Billing Dept.
Review project cost reports, identify trends, and provide ideas for managing costs to the Project Manager.
Management Competencies
Effectively maintain and manage RFI process, daily reports, drawings and submittal logs.
Obtain and verify all shop drawings as assigned.
Prepare and submit product data of materials and/or equipment used (i.e., submittals) to the client/client’s agent for approval.
Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date documentation of the project’s as‑built records and submit to the client upon completion.
Maintain proper safety records.
Coordinate support functions, including project start‑up, with internal and external team members.
As assigned by the Project Manager, keep a daily log of key activities and decisions.
Effectively manage the change order and billing process and direct meetings.
Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with subcontractors and assist in orienting them to the project.
Evaluate the performance of subcontractors at project completion in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Create and engage in relationships with key union contacts.
Understand and assist in the application of buy‑out procedures.
Engineering Competencies
Understand Alberici’s quality guidelines and ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards; assist with quality management (QA/QC).
Assist with surveying on the project site.
Help produce or procure drawings (CAD) as needed, including crane layouts, as‑built, critical lift points, etc.
Assist in commissioning & start‑up.
Construction Means and Methods
Stage, prepare, phase, and sequence site logistics within budget and schedule; assess constructability.
Conduct a visual inspection of the project regularly to identify deviations from accepted construction practices.
Coordinate inspections with local regulatory bodies, accompany inspectors, maintain records, and report results.
Verify and track quantities of key materials (loads of sand, yards of concrete).
Manage the punch list process.
Establish rapport and bond with the project team, including architects, engineers, owners, and department managers.
Maintain effective working relationships with the client, client’s agents, and/or client employees on site.
Provide information to the client and its agents so the client has a positive construction experience.
Monitor adherence to contract with the Project Manager and inform of potential deviations.
Performance
Thorough knowledge of SafeRing policies and practices.
Practice and enforce company safety policies; model safety as top priority on site; wear appropriate PPE.
Contribute to building a safe project site.
Obtain safety equipment needed by personnel on site.
Conduct safety inspections of the project site.
Point out potentially unsafe conditions to Superintendent and/or subcontractor.
Identify patterns of unsafe conditions and inform Project Manager.
Complete accident investigations and reports as directed.
Document safety violations.
Conduct a weekly review of the Labor Productivity Report.
Plan and review cost‑effectiveness of materials purchased by Superintendent, monthly.
Serve as acting Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager in their absence.
Travel to company and subsidiary offices, off‑site client and supplier meetings, and other North American locations as required.
Maintain regular, reliable attendance in person as required.
Management Responsibilities
– may manage and direct non‑supervisory administrative employees at a project site.
Education and Experience Applicants must maintain collegiate status for the duration of the internship with a focus in Civil, Construction Management, Industrial, Mechanical, or related engineering field. Individual assignments will vary based on project scope, phase, and job requirements.
