About the Opportunity This is an opportunity to become part of a dedicated team supporting public safety, working in a correctional facility where professionalism, resilience, and teamwork are essential. The incumbent of this position serves as a first‑line supervisor over Corrections Sergeant Master, Sergeants and Cadets, and is responsible for the care, custody and control of all inmates assigned to work crews on a daily basis.

Requirements Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:

Possession of a high school diploma or GED; or

One year of experience in any field; or

Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

Necessary Special Requirements

An applicant with a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge, will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations, an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse or engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused, will be disqualified.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a current driver’s license.

Job Duties

Ensure that proper count procedures are followed and assist Shift Supervisor in correcting any count problems.

Ensure that ice water is supplied to all field lines in a timely manner.

Stand roll call at established time and place and assist in inspection of officers, ensuring compliance with institutional dress codes.

Ensure that all required security equipment is in place and functional.

Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type:

Probation, or promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana State employee

Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.

An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.

This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation:

This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $23.03 per hour. There is premium pay for this position: a rate between $.50 and $1.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.

IMPORTANT:

Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD‑214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire.

This is a 24‑hour facility.
