We are partnering with a multi‑billion dollar Commercial Construction Company to help them hire a Corporate Controller for their Houston office. In this role you'll be responsible for corporate construction accounting, financial reporting, budgeting & forecasting, internal controls and managing a team of 5–6 people. This is a huge leadership opportunity that sits 5 days in office.
Base pay range $175,000.00/yr – $210,000.00/yr
Additional compensation Annual Bonus
Responsibilities The Corporate Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial and accounting operations of the company, including budgeting, job costing, financial reporting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong construction accounting experience, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of WIP schedules, subcontractor billing, and cost control.
Manage all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
Maintain accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial statements and reports
Oversee job cost accounting and ensure costs are accurately tracked to each project
Review and maintain Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules and apply percentage‑of‑completion accounting methods
Assist in the development of company‑wide budgets and forecasts
Track performance against budget and provide variance analysis
Provide cash flow projections and financial planning support
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings, prevailing wage laws, and certified payroll reporting (if applicable)
Prepare for and coordinate external audits and year‑end financial reviews
Maintain and improve accounting systems and software
Supervise and mentor accounting staff; provide training and performance management
Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
Collaborate with other departments to support financial decision‑making
Provide accurate and timely financial data to the CFO and executive leadership
Participate in strategic planning, cost control initiatives, and growth planning
Assist with bank relationships, bonding documentation, and insurance renewals
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA
Construction accounting experience
10+ years of experience
ERP implementation experience is a plus
