Position Purpose

The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for leading data science initiatives that drive business profitability, increase efficiencies, and improve customer experience. This role assists in the development of The Home Depot advanced analytics infrastructure that informs decision making. Senior Data Scientists are expected to seek out business opportunities to leverage data science as a competitive advantage. Based on the specific data science team, this role would need to be proficient in one or more data science specializations such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Development (35%): Design and develop algorithms and models to analyze large datasets, execute tasks with high efficiency and quality, select, utilize, and interpret advanced analytical methodologies, and effectively communicate insights to technical and non-technical leaders.

Project Management & Team Support (30%): Prioritize work, ensure quality, mentor junior roles, collaborate with managers and team, and support recruiting and hiring for the team.

Business Collaboration (20%): Leverage business knowledge to shape solutions, build trust and collaboration with internal customers and cross‑functional teams, educate partners on advanced analytics, and identify new business opportunities.

Technical Exploration & Development (15%): Stay current on data science developments, participate in continuous improvement by developing reusable solutions and best practices, and contribute to a library of reusable algorithms.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

5 years of work experience in business intelligence and analytics.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Proficient in Python.

Proficient in running queries against data (e.g., Google BigQuery or SQL).

Proficient with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau).

Mastery of statistical techniques to identify key insights that help solve business problems.

Proficient in prescriptive modeling such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP.

Proficiency in predictive modeling, data mining, and data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

6+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics.

Additional skills in data visualization and prescriptive modeling.

Minimum Education

Completion of a bachelor’s degree program in a field related to the job.

Travel Requirements

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements

Mostly sitting; occasional light lifting.

Working Conditions

Located in a comfortable indoor area; any unpleasant conditions are infrequent.
