Lilly, a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry. The Foundry will enable advanced manufacturing and drug development. The Senior Principal Engineer will provide automation support across one or more operating areas, mentor employees, and influence the process control technical agenda. Key Objectives and Deliverables
Technical Leadership – Lead and oversee automation engineering projects. Mentor Process Control Team – Design, controls philosophy, implementation, and commissioning. Process Control Work Implementation and Coordination – Develop and implement the Automation Engineering Project Plan. Operational Excellence
Lead and oversee Site Area leads, System Integrator, Functional Requirements, Design Specifications, DCS Application Software, Test Specifications. Participate in design reviews and automation application software reviews; attend equipment and software FATs. Lead a team of automation engineers supporting commissioning. Provide periodic status updates to Project Management. Devising functional requirements and process control strategies for control systems in collaboration with Process Engineering. Design, coding/configuration, and testing of DCS software (sequence logic, graphics, batch software). Automation engineering – design, tuning, and troubleshooting of system integration across platforms and sites. Implementing and supporting electronic systems (plant historians) to capture process automation production data. Maintain the validated state of site control systems in line with Lilly quality standards and validation strategies. Automation support for capital projects, including new product introductions. Promote automation to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and compliance. Organizational Capability
Set and reinforce standards for automation work products with automation and compliance consultants. Demonstrated initiative, good planning, organizational skills, prioritization, and commitment to timelines. Strong problem‑solving skills, continuous improvement, and technical curiosity. Influence peers and business partners. Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and non‑technical audiences. Knowledge of GMP, regulatory requirements, computer system validation. Basic Requirements
Minimum B.S. in Engineering with experience in Automation Engineering, preferably handling system integration of applications, systems, and platforms. 8+ years working experience in biopharma engineering, operations, or manufacturing. Additional Preferences
Experience with greenfield manufacturing sites utilizing SCADA, DCS, MES, LIMS, site historian systems, middleware applications (DeltaV, Rockwell, Syncade, LabVantage, OSI PI, OPC). Experience developing native and custom application interfaces for data communication, ETL, and data parsing for non‑standard equipment, applications, and communication protocols. Experience commissioning, qualifying, and supporting systems between SCADA, DCS, MES, LIMS, historian, and other applications. Experience facilitating and driving decision‑making at an organizational level. Other Information

Base salary range: $64,500 – $167,200 (full‑time). Additional compensation may include company bonuses and a comprehensive benefits program. EEO Statement
