Department Overview The Center for Health Statistics and Informatics (CHSI) is responsible for department-wide initiatives to improve the effectiveness of our work through better health information systems, increased application of epidemiologic methods of analysis, strong liaisons with public health organizations and schools of public health, and effective partnerships with local health agencies and professionals. CHSI houses the Office of Vital Records, responsible for registering all California vital events and providing birth, death, and marriage records to the public.
Job Description and Duties
Supports the CDPH mission and strategic plan by performing a wide variety of complex technical analytical assignments related to the quality assurance and production of vital records in the State.
Serves as the lead analyst responsible for preparing legislative concepts, proposals, and analyzing legislation, defining State and Federal statutes to staff, local health departments, county recorders’ offices, county clerks’ offices, and county coroners’ offices.
Acts as a subject matter expert in policy interpretation, regulatory compliance, and oversight of banknote security paper.
Provides analytical leadership in evaluating vital records operations and developing data‑driven recommendations to support decision‑making, efficiency, and integrity in statewide vital records processing.
Travel up to 5% of the time, including overnight stays, may be required.
Eligibility Information
New to California State Service applicants must take and pass the examination for this classification to be eligible for hire.
Current state employees without transfer or list eligibility must also complete and pass the examination for this classification to qualify for this position.
