Plant Operator (Control Room) WIN Waste Innovations is looking for a Plant Operator (Control Room) at the Baltimore Waste-to-Energy Facility. The role involves guiding plant operations to maintain production goals safely and reliably, operating the control room, and interfacing directly with contractors, vendors, and customers. This rotating shift position requires nights, weekends, and holidays. The candidate should demonstrate problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask while maintaining clear communication across multiple work groups.

Responsibilities

Operate and control the waste‑to‑energy facility’s steam generation systems, including condensate, feed water, boilers, turbine/generator, service water, fuel & ash handling, auxiliary systems, electrical distribution, fire systems, air pollution controls, and related computer networks.

Continuously monitor operational and emissions data, using a distributive control system (DCS) and continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS). Read gauges, recorders, and alarm annunciators to determine plant conditions, communicate plant status, and take corrective actions promptly.

Maintain up‑to‑date logs and perform calculations to detect abnormal operating conditions. Notify the Shift Supervisor of any abnormal conditions and dispatch field operators to take corrective action.

Respond to changing plant conditions to maximize safety and environmental compliance. Monitor operating parameters and communicate with fuel handling to ensure proper fuel mixture and combustion.

Create and issue lockout‑tagout (LOTO) procedures, confined space, and hot work permits for all regulated work.

Maintain clear communication with plant personnel, contractors, and customers.

Coordinate, direct, and train other operators and plant personnel on operating principles of plant systems.

Perform physical duties associated with maintaining boilers and equipment as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Lead, guide, and direct 2‑5 employees to maintain safe and reliable plant operations.

Act as Shift Supervisor when requested.

Education / Experience

Two years working in a power plant environment as an Assistant Plant Operator (APO) or comparable position, or five years of related experience or training.

Mechanical skills sufficient to perform tasks such as replacement of shear pins, valve repacking, and equipment inspections.

Ability to obtain an ASME QRO provisional license.

Proficiency in mathematics required for job functions.

Knowledge of operation and control of a steam‑generating power plant.

For Massachusetts facilities, a 2nd Class Engineer’s license is required.

Work Environment

Noise and other environmental demands as typical of a power plant.

Physical Demands

Stand, sit for prolonged periods, walk, handle tools, climb and walk on heights > 4 ft, stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, crawl.

Ascend/descend stairs and vertical ladders as part of normal duties and emergencies.

Lift up to 50 lbs and move throughout the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, and uneven surfaces.

Operate a 1.5‑inch fire hose at 125 psi.

Operate fire extinguishing equipment from handheld extinguishers to 200‑lb portable units.

Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard manways.

PPE Required

Negative pressure respirator, positive pressure respirator, self‑contained breathing apparatus.

Hard hat, approved safety shoes, eye protection, rubber suit and gloves, chemical‑resistant suit, heat‑resistant outerwear, flame‑resistant outerwear, hearing protection, safety harness.
