Buyer – Machine & Fabrication
JR Automation, a Hitachi Group Company, is a global technology solutions provider that transforms how leading manufacturers make and distribute products. JR Automation is expanding in North America, Europe, and Asia and seeks a Buyer – Machine & Fabrication to join our team in Holland, MI or Lake Orion, MI.
Location Type This is an onsite position in Holland, MI or Lake Orion, MI.
How You’ll Make An Impact
Mentor the buyers and associate buyers in the technical aspects of machining and fabrication processes.
Maintain and improve the Machining and Fabrication preferred suppliers list, leveraging the supply base and their technical capabilities.
Improve the sourcing (make vs. buy) decision by applying technical knowledge of internal capabilities and the supply base.
Purchase direct material from project bills of material in a manner consistent with Supply Chain Management and JR corporate strategy.
Communicate with internal personnel regarding timing of material delivery, payment terms, and product discrepancies.
Assist with expediting material when necessary.
Enter purchase orders into purchasing system(s) as needed and ensure proper documentation of suppliers and purchasing‑related material.
Assist with correcting discrepant supplier invoices and packing slips when necessary.
Interact with suppliers, team members, and internal customers in a manner defined by a high level of professionalism and ethics.
Work to achieve departmental and business unit goals, emphasizing working capital management, supplier on‑time delivery, and material cost savings and avoidance.
Help maintain positive supplier relationships.
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery, and other terms as necessary with suppliers.
Mentor Associate Buyers to ensure they are following JR processes and procedures.
Work closely with the Commodity/Strategic Purchasing Team to ensure each business unit secures the best possible value from the supply base.
Collaborate with Supply Chain Management team members from other business units to share common processes, procedures and best practices.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or Business.
Related certifications such as a Procurement Professional preferred. 5+ years of purchasing experience.
Experience in a manufacturing and/or projects environment is preferred.
2–3 years of experience with Blanket Purchase Orders and releases, with strong knowledge of Epicor and EDI transmission of the procure‑to‑pay process, including data elements.
Ability to implement efficiencies in Epicor to reduce the number of PO transactions per project required.
Experience driving lean and continuous‑improvement processes and strategies within an organization.
Strong utilization of Microsoft applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Strong communication and relationship‑building skills with internal teams and external suppliers.
Willingness to travel to suppliers and/or other JR locations up to 15%.
Demonstrated values of collaboration, integrity, courage, and excellence.
