DCS Case Manager
Job located throughout West Valley and Central Phoenix offices. Salary: $21.7068; Grade 17. Open until filled.

Step Increases
22 week CORE training program: $22.59/hour
1 year of service: $24.11/hour
2 years of service: $25.96/hour
3 years of service: $27.66/hour
What Does a Case Manager/Child Safety Specialist Do?
Respond to reported allegations of child abuse and/or neglect
Assess child safety and risk
Conduct interviews and gather information
Make in-and-out-of-home contacts with families and children
Attend court hearings
Prepare case plans and conduct case plan staffing
Author professional reports and fill out documentation
Coordinate and monitor services
Place children, transport children, and move a child’s possessions when needed
Manage cases throughout the assigned county and area
Use computer and Department’s Child Welfare Software Programs
Alternative work hours may be required, including overtime, weekends and holidays.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Confidential principles; behavior modification, conflict resolution and counseling principles and techniques; intervention techniques; interviewing procedures; child development; family systems; family-centered practice; behavioral indicators of mental health disturbance; impact of abuse and neglect; separation and loss issues; child welfare practices.
Computers and software: Microsoft Office Suite; mobile devices; digital calendars (Outlook); video conferencing (Microsoft Teams).
Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; verbal and written communication; eliciting and gathering information; modeling professional behavior; time management and multi-tasking; keen observation; sensitivity to needs, feelings and cultures; calmness in high-stress situations; adaptability; and independent decision-making.
Complete tasks thoroughly; lead and take responsibility; analyze information; address substance abuse issues; prepare detailed documentation; enter and correct data in computer-based system; acquire and renew CPR certification.
Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a U.S. Department of Education accredited institution. Candidates with foreign degrees must provide credential evaluation.
Or four years of experience as a Department of Child Safety Case Aide.
Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Driver’s license for state business; must meet all required training and license checks.
During the first 22 weeks of employment: required in‑person training in Midtown Phoenix involving overnight stays every other week.
Must pass written exam, background investigation, Motor Report check and DCS Central Registry check.
Employee is subject to Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
