The Extension Agronomy team at North Florida Research and Education Center (NFREC) is looking for a highly motivated candidate for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position. This position focuses on the use of precision agricultural techniques to improve nitrogen use efficiency for high N demanding crops such as corn, sweet corn, and cotton. The selected candidate will be housed at NFREC-Quincy and will work closely with the University of Florida – IFAS NFREC farm crew, growers, extension agents, regional specialized agents, and research specialists to establish on‑farm trials in the Suwannee Valley region of Florida. The selected candidate will be expected to develop excellent relationships with Florida stakeholders for the success of this project.

Duties Will Include

Establish on‑farm trials to compare and demonstrate the impact of different fertilizer application methods on high N demanding crops in the Suwannee Valley region.

Perform field mapping of selected on‑farm sites using Veris MSP3 to investigate soil Electrical Conductivity (EC) zone‑based effects of different methods.

Collect regular soil and plant tissue samples from selected farms during the growing season.

Collect deep core soil samples, if required, using a Geoprobe to track the fate of soil‑applied fertilizers.

Analyze and present data at scientific conferences and extension meetings.

Conduct significant travel to the farm sites during the growing season to assist with data collection and management of the trials.

Write quarterly and annual progress reports for the funding agency.

Assist graduate students with scientific writing and statistical analysis.

Assist the Principal Investigator in grant writing and extension activities.

Required Qualifications

A PhD (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, Crop Physiology, or a related field with experience in nutrient and water management emphasizing precision agriculture.

A valid driver’s license.

Willingness to work long hours outdoors, in hot conditions, and lift heavy material up to 60 lbs.

Preferred

Experience with field mapping, smart fertilizers, and different fertilizer application methods such as broadcasting, fertigation, and banding.

Exceptional track record of peer‑reviewed scientific journal articles.

Sound knowledge of field plot techniques and statistical analysis.

Track record of Extension activities, on‑farm trials, and Extension publications.
