Rotational Occupational Therapist – Band 5

Job Overview We are seeking proactive Band 5 therapists to join our dynamic and motivated group of Occupational Therapists on the rotational scheme. You will be based within a specialist team at one of our locations, providing OT assessment and intervention for patients in a variety of settings and working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.
Main Responsibilities
Identify suitable patients and carry out OT assessments and interventions to promote independence and facilitate discharge from hospital.
Manage your own caseload and work as part of a wider multi‑disciplinary team to ensure patient‑centred care.
Provide support to student practitioners and staff.
Actively participate in learning opportunities within the department.
Complete a structured induction, departmental and trust preceptorship programme, regular supervision, and utilise peer support from the Band 5 support group.
Create and maintain clinical records, care plans, MDT documentation, policy briefings, discharge summaries and delegated items.
Prepare and write national and local audit and research projects, reports, train‑the‑trainer tools and monitoring data.
Favour potential learning and research opportunities and experiences with OT interventions and rehabilitation processes.
Carry out hand‑over duties to the following job profile – OT environment, OT role and responsibilities, clinical practice and patient management, patient assessment and treatment patterns, OT teamwork, policies and procedures, and currently running projects.
Person Specification Knowledge – Essential Criteria
Basic knowledge of medical conditions and their effect on occupational performance.
Sound knowledge of OT process within an acute setting.
Basic knowledge of the broad context of health and social care policy, risk assessment and management.
Basic understanding of disability equipment, housing adaptations, moving and handling legislation and best practice.
Understanding of professional ethics and their application into practice.
Basic knowledge of clinical governance.
Evidence of CPD.
Desirable Criteria
Knowledge of undertaking research and audit projects.
Knowledge of team dynamics and team building.
Skills – Essential Criteria
Organisation, time management, problem solving and prioritisation skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Commitment to personal and service development.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
Skills – Desirable Criteria
IT skills.
Presentation skills.
Experience – Essential Criteria
Application of OT process within a ‘physical’ setting at undergraduate level.
Use of functional assessment and activity analysis.
Experience – Desirable Criteria
Previous experience on a Band 5 rotational scheme.
Experience of working with patients with physical disability (e.g., stroke, reduced mobility).
Qualification – Essential Criteria
Degree/Diploma in OT.
State registration with Health and Care Professions Council.
Qualification – Desirable Criteria
Member of British Association of Occupational Therapists.
Additional Requirements
All references from current and previous employers will be sought and must cover a minimum of three years of employment.
Successful candidates shall pay for DBS certificate via salary deduction from first month’s pay.
