Job Summary Assists the Dentist in providing a wide range of dental procedures within the boundaries of competence, based on documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Provides chair side services, educational information, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and areas, and clerical assistance.

Job Duties

Provides chair side assistance to the dentist during procedures.

Cleans and disinfects patient area before and after each appointment according to infection control guidelines.

Arranges dental instruments and materials in order to assist the dentist.

Disinfects instruments, equipment, countertops, and other related items to maintain clinic cleanliness.

Provides educational information to patients regarding required treatment, current treatment, and post‑treatment care.

Cleans, polishes teeth; applies topical fluoride and sealants within scope of practice.

Operates ultrasound sealer and hand instruments to remove visible calculus.

Makes appointments, pre‑fills forms, and maintains patient records and clinic files.

Takes, exposes, processes, and mounts X‑rays within scope of practice.

Assists in taking impressions, pours and trims casts, and performs basic laboratory procedures as needed.

Performs coronal polishing, sealant placement, and nitrous oxide assistance as certified.

Supports shift supervision: plans daily work distribution, trains staff, and maintains supplies.

May serve in a lead position.

Qualifications

High school education or GED.

No additional experience required.

Must obtain Dental Assistant Permit from the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry within 30 days and maintain throughout employment.

Must hold current expanded duty permits for Coronal Polishing, Sealants, or Nitrous Oxide as applicable.

All certifications must be maintained throughout employment; can be obtained via ADA‑accredited program or Indian Health Service Facility.

Employee must not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General, the General Services Administration, or listed on OIG/GSA excluded lists, and must pass background investigation and periodic adjudication for child care.

Physical Demands & Work Environment Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, sit, use hands to finger or handle objects, stand, walk, climb, balance, and lift up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Work environment may expose employee to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, electrical shock, radiation, and moderate noise.
